Setup

1. Charging the Battery

The unit is powered by a 7.2-volt lithium-ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the battery. Connect the charger to the charging port on the main unit. The indicator light on the charger will show charging status. Once fully charged, disconnect the charger.

2. Attaching the Extension Pole

For extended reach and reduced bending, attach the 3-foot extension pole. Align the main unit with the pole's connector and slide it into place until it clicks securely. Ensure the electrical cable from the main unit is properly connected to the pole's internal wiring.

3. Changing Blades

The Sun Joe HJ605CC-GRY comes with two interchangeable blades: a 4-inch grass shear blade and a 6-inch hedge trimmer blade. To change blades, ensure the unit is off and disconnected from any power source. Remove the blade cover, then carefully slide out the current blade. Insert the desired blade, ensuring it aligns correctly with the internal mechanism, and replace the blade cover.

Operating Instructions

1. Starting the Unit

To start the unit, press the safety switch located on the side of the handle, then squeeze the trigger. Release the trigger to stop the unit.

2. Grass Shearing

For grass shearing, attach the 4-inch grass shear blade. You can use the unit handheld for precise touch-ups or with the extension pole for edging along sidewalks and driveways. The extension pole features wheels for smooth gliding along surfaces.

3. Hedge Trimming

For hedge trimming, attach the 6-inch hedge trimmer blade. Use the unit handheld for shaping small shrubs or with the extension pole for reaching taller hedges without straining. The head of the unit can be rotated for optimal cutting angles by pressing a simple release button.

Maintenance

1. Blade Care

After each use, clean the blades of any debris, sap, or grass clippings. Apply a light coat of machine oil to the blades to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation. Always handle blades with care and wear protective gloves.

2. Storage

Store the unit in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Ensure the battery is charged before storing for extended periods to maintain battery health. Keep the unit out of reach of children and pets.

Troubleshooting

• Unit not starting: Ensure the battery is fully charged and properly inserted. Check that both the safety switch and trigger are engaged simultaneously.
• Blades not cutting effectively: Clean the blades of any accumulated debris. Check if the blades are dull or damaged and replace if necessary.
• Reduced battery life: Ensure the battery is fully charged before each use. Avoid operating the unit in extremely cold temperatures, which can affect battery performance.
