1. Introduction

The Behringer DS2800 is an ultra-flexible and easy-to-use distribution splitter designed for professional audio applications. 2. Important Safety Instructions

Please read and follow all safety instructions before operating the DS2800. Retain these instructions for future reference.

• Power Source: Connect the unit only to an AC power outlet of the specified voltage.
• Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not block ventilation openings.

4. Product Overview

4.1 Front Panel

The front panel of the DS2800 provides all necessary controls and indicators for monitoring and adjusting audio levels.

• INPUT A / INPUT B: These sections display the input signal status for channels A and B.
• LEVEL Controls (1-8): Independent rotary controls for adjusting the output level of each of the eight channels.
• LED Meters: Each output channel features a multi-segment LED meter (SIG, -24, -12, 0, CLIP) to indicate signal presence, level, and clipping.
• POWER Switch: Toggles the unit's power ON/OFF.

4.2 Rear Panel

The rear panel houses all audio input and output connections, as well as the power inlet.

• AC IN: Standard IEC power inlet for connecting the included power cable.
• INPUT A / INPUT B (XLR): Balanced XLR inputs for connecting your audio sources.
• LINK (XLR): An XLR output that mirrors the signal from Input A, allowing for cascading multiple DS2800 units or sending the signal to another device.
• MODE Switch: Selects between two operational modes:
  • 1-2/4: In this mode, Input A feeds outputs 1-4, and Input B feeds outputs 5-8.
  • 1-8: In this mode, Input A feeds all eight outputs (1-8). Input B is inactive.
• OUTPUTS 1-8 (XLR): Balanced XLR outputs for connecting to amplifiers, powered speakers, or other audio equipment.

5. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Behringer DS2800:

1. Placement: Place the DS2800 on a stable surface or mount it in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Ensure adequate space around the unit for ventilation.
2. Power Connection: Connect the supplied power cable to the AC IN socket on the rear panel and then to a suitable AC power outlet. Ensure the POWER switch on the front panel is in the OFF position before connecting.
3. Input Connections: Connect your audio source(s) to the INPUT A and/or INPUT B XLR connectors on the rear panel using high-quality XLR cables.
4. Output Connections: Connect the OUTPUTS 1-8 XLR connectors to your receiving devices (e.g., power amplifiers, active speakers, mixing consoles) using high-quality XLR cables.
5. Mode Selection: Set the MODE switch on the rear panel to your desired operational mode (1-2/4 for two inputs to four outputs each, or 1-8 for one input to all eight outputs).
6. Initial Level Settings: Before powering on, set all LEVEL controls on the front panel to their minimum (fully counter-clockwise) position.

6. Operating Instructions

Once the DS2800 is connected, you can begin operation:

1. Power On: Turn on all connected audio equipment (mixers, amplifiers) first, then switch the POWER button on the DS2800 to the ON position.
2. Signal Input: Send an audio signal to the selected input(s) (Input A and/or Input B).
3. Adjust Output Levels: Slowly turn the LEVEL controls clockwise for each active output channel (1-8) until the desired volume is achieved. Monitor the LED meters to ensure the signal is not clipping (CLIP LED should not illuminate consistently). Aim for the 0 dB LED to light up occasionally for optimal signal-to-noise ratio.
4. Monitoring: Observe the LED meters for each channel. The 'SIG' LED indicates signal presence. The '-24', '-12', and '0' LEDs indicate signal strength in dB. The 'CLIP' LED indicates that the signal is too strong and is causing distortion; reduce the level if this LED lights up frequently.

Using the LINK Output: The LINK output mirrors the signal from Input A. This is useful for sending the input signal to another device or for daisy-chaining multiple DS2800 units to expand the number of outputs.

7. Maintenance

The Behringer DS2800 requires minimal maintenance to ensure long-term performance.

• Cleaning: Regularly wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use liquid cleaners, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these may damage the finish or internal components.
• Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation slots are free from dust and obstructions to prevent overheating.
• Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
