JHS Pedals KILTV2

JHS Pedals The Kilt V2 Overdrive and Fuzz Guitar Effects Pedal User Manual

Model: KILTV2

Introduction

The JHS Pedals The Kilt V2 is a versatile overdrive and fuzz guitar effects pedal, designed in collaboration with guitarist Stu G. This pedal offers a wide range of tonal possibilities, from subtle, amp-like breakup to aggressive, gated fuzz. This manual will guide you through the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Kilt V2 pedal.

Setup

Before connecting your JHS Pedals The Kilt V2, ensure your amplifier and other effects pedals are powered off. The Kilt V2 requires a standard 9V DC power supply (not included) with a center-negative barrel connector. Connect the power supply to the 9V input jack on the pedal.

Connect your guitar to the INPUT jack on the right side of the pedal using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable. Connect the OUTPUT jack on the left side of the pedal to your amplifier or the next pedal in your signal chain using another 1/4-inch instrument cable.

The Kilt V2 also features a G2 REMOTE jack, allowing external control of the G2 toggle switch with an optional remote foot switch for convenient on-the-fly adjustments.

Operating Controls

The Kilt V2 features several controls to shape your tone:

  • VOLUME Knob: Controls the overall output level of the pedal.
  • TONE Knob: Adjusts the high-end frequencies, allowing you to brighten or darken your sound.
  • GAIN Knob: Controls the amount of overdrive/fuzz. Turning it clockwise increases the distortion.
  • CUT/FLAT Toggle Switch: This switch allows you to either cut low-end frequencies (CUT position) for a tighter sound that sits better in a mix, or maintain a full-range frequency response (FLAT position).
  • G1 Toggle Switch: Engages an additional gain stage. When flipped up, it adds a touch of drive for more riffy grit.
  • G2 Toggle Switch: Engages a higher gain stage. When flipped up, it pushes the pedal into distortion territory with increased saturation and sustain, ideal for lead tones.

Tone Settings

The Kilt V2 offers a wide spectrum of drive and fuzz tones:

  • Light Gain: With both G1 and G2 toggles in the down position, you achieve a light, amp-like chimey breakup.
  • Medium Drive: Flipping the G1 toggle up adds a touch of drive, suitable for more riff-oriented playing.
  • High Gain Distortion: Flipping the G2 toggle up pushes the pedal into distortion territory, providing increased saturation and sustain for powerful lead tones.
  • Gated Fuzz/Distortion: When both G1 and G2 toggles are flipped up, the Kilt V2 delivers an almost uncontrollable gated fuzz/distortion, designed to cut through any mix.

Experiment with the TONE knob and the CUT/FLAT switch to fine-tune the high-end response and low-end presence to match your guitar, amplifier, and musical style.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your JHS Pedals The Kilt V2:

  • Keep the pedal clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the pedal to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Always use the correct 9V DC center-negative power supply. Using an incorrect power supply can damage the unit and void the warranty.
  • When not in use for extended periods, disconnect the power supply and instrument cables.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Kilt V2, try the following steps:

  • No Sound:
    • Check all cable connections (guitar, amplifier, power supply).
    • Ensure the power supply is correctly connected and providing 9V DC center-negative power.
    • Bypass the pedal to check if the issue is with the pedal or another part of your signal chain.
  • Unexpected Tone/Noise:
    • Verify that all knobs and toggle switches are set to your desired positions.
    • Ensure you are using a high-quality, isolated power supply to minimize noise.
    • Test with different cables and guitars to rule out external factors.
