1. Introduction

The Yamaha YPT-360 is a versatile 61-key portable keyboard designed for beginning and intermediate players. It features touch-sensitive keys, a wide array of voices and styles, and built-in lesson functions to support musical development. 2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure the following items are present:

  • Yamaha YPT-360 Portable Keyboard
  • PA130 Power Adapter
  • Music Rest
  • Owner's Manual (this document)

Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.

2.2 Power Connection

  1. Connect the PA130 power adapter to the DC IN jack on the rear panel of the keyboard.
  2. Plug the power adapter into a standard AC wall outlet.
  3. Alternatively, the keyboard can be powered by six "AA" size alkaline (LR6) or rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. (Batteries sold separately).

2.3 Attaching the Music Rest

Insert the music rest into the slots provided on the top panel of the keyboard. Ensure it is securely seated.

2.4 Initial Power On

Press the [POWER] button located on the left side of the control panel to turn on the keyboard. The display will illuminate.

3. Operation

3.1 Basic Controls

  • [MASTER VOLUME] knob: Adjusts the overall volume of the keyboard.
  • [VOICE] buttons: Select different instrument sounds.
  • [STYLE] buttons: Select different auto-accompaniment styles.
  • [SONG] buttons: Select built-in songs for listening or lesson functions.
  • [TEMPO/TAP] buttons: Adjust the tempo of songs or metronome.
  • [METRONOME] button: Turns the metronome on/off.

3.2 Voices and Styles

The YPT-360 offers 574 high-quality instrument voices and 165 auto-accompaniment styles. Use the dedicated [VOICE] and [STYLE] buttons to browse and select your desired sounds and rhythms. The LCD screen will display the currently selected voice or style.

3.3 Lesson Functions (Yamaha Education Suite)

The Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.) provides comprehensive lesson functions to help you learn to play. These include:

  • "Keys to Success": Short, easy, step-by-step lessons to help players learn entire songs.
  • Listening, Timing, Waiting modes: Practice modes that guide you through songs at your own pace.
  • Chord Dictionary: Learn how to play various chords.

To access lesson functions, press the [LESSON] button and follow the on-screen instructions.

3.4 Smart Chord Feature

The Smart Chord feature allows you to play chords with just one finger. This is ideal for beginners to enjoy full-sounding chords without complex fingerings. Activate this feature via the control panel and select your desired chord type.

3.5 Recording Your Performance

The YPT-360 allows you to record your performances. Use the [REC] button to start recording and [PLAY] to listen back. Refer to the detailed manual for advanced recording options and multi-track recording capabilities.

3.6 USB TO HOST Connectivity

Connect the keyboard to a computer or portable device using a USB cable (sold separately) to transfer MIDI and audio data. This enables interaction with music software and educational apps.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the keyboard's surface with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.

If using batteries, replace all six "AA" batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display or when the sound becomes distorted. Ensure correct polarity when inserting new batteries.
