4. Operating Instructions
4.1 General Operation
- Insert a charged battery pack into the saw.
- Select the appropriate blade for your material (wood, metal, plastic, etc.).
- Position the pivoting shoe firmly against the workpiece.
- Press the variable speed trigger to start the saw. Apply light pressure initially, then increase as the blade engages the material.
- Guide the saw along the cutting line, allowing the blade to do the work. Avoid forcing the saw.
- Release the trigger to stop the saw. The electric brake will quickly halt the blade.

4.2 Variable Speed Control
The variable speed trigger allows you to adjust the cutting speed based on the material and desired precision. Pressing the trigger lightly results in slower speeds, while pressing it fully provides maximum speed.

4.3 Electric Brake
The integrated electric brake stops the blade quickly after the trigger is released, reducing the risk of accidental contact and improving overall safety.

4.4 Pivoting Shoe
The pivoting shoe allows the saw to maintain contact with the workpiece throughout the cut, providing stability and reducing vibration. This is particularly useful for cutting curved or irregular shapes.

Figure 6: The pivoting blade shoe delivers added control and stability, especially when cutting through various materials.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your BLACK+DECKER reciprocating saw.
- Cleaning: Keep the ventilation slots clear of debris to prevent overheating. Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down the tool. Do not use water or chemical cleaners.
- Blade Care: Inspect blades before each use for sharpness and damage. Replace dull or damaged blades immediately. Store blades properly to prevent corrosion.
- Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods.
- General Inspection: Periodically check all screws and fasteners for tightness. Ensure all moving parts operate smoothly.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Saw does not start. | Battery not charged or improperly installed. Trigger lock engaged. | Ensure battery is fully charged and correctly inserted. Disengage the trigger lock. |
| Reduced cutting performance. | Dull or incorrect blade for the material. Overheating. | Replace with a sharp, appropriate blade. Allow the tool to cool down. |
