3. Setup

The ASUS ZenDrive is designed for easy plug-and-play functionality. Follow these steps to connect and prepare your drive for use:

  1. Connect the Drive: Choose the appropriate cable for your computer. If your computer has a USB Type-C port, use the USB Type-C cable. If your computer has standard USB-A ports, use the USB 2.0 Y-cable. For the Y-cable, ensure both USB-A connectors are plugged into your computer for stable power delivery.
  2. Power On: Once connected, the drive should automatically be recognized by your operating system.
  3. Install Software (Optional but Recommended): For full functionality, including disc burning, data backup, and encryption features, install the bundled software from the included disc. If your computer lacks an optical drive, you may need to download the software from the official ASUS support website.

  • M-Disc Support: For long-term data preservation, the drive supports M-Disc archival quality DVDs. These discs are designed to protect your data for up to 1,000 years, significantly longer than standard optical media.
  • Disc Encryption II: Utilize the included software to secure your data with password protection and hidden file functionality, adding an extra layer of security to your burned discs.
  • Nero BackItUp Function: The drive includes support for Nero BackItUp, allowing you to easily back up data from your Android devices to optical discs.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your ZenDrive.

  • Cleaning the Exterior: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the exterior of the drive. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Disc Tray Care: When opening or closing the disc tray, do so gently to prevent damage to the mechanism. Do not force the tray.
  • Environmental Conditions: Store and operate the drive in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Disc Handling: Always handle discs by their edges to avoid fingerprints and scratches, which can affect read/write performance.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ASUS ZenDrive, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Drive Not Recognized:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the drive and your computer.
    • Try connecting the drive to a different USB port on your computer.
    • If using the USB 2.0 Y-cable, ensure both USB-A connectors are plugged in to provide sufficient power.
    • Restart your computer and reconnect the drive.
  • Disc Not Reading/Writing:
    • Check if the disc is clean and free of scratches or smudges. Clean the disc with a soft, lint-free cloth if necessary.
    • Ensure the disc is inserted correctly into the tray, label-side up.
    • Try a different disc to determine if the issue is with the drive or the disc itself.
    • Verify that your operating system or burning software is up-to-date.
  • Software Issues:
    • If you are experiencing problems with the bundled software (e.g., Nero BackItUp, Disc Encryption II), ensure it is correctly installed and updated to the latest version.
    • Consult the software's help documentation or the ASUS support website for specific software-related troubleshooting.
  • Slow Performance:
    • Ensure you are using a high-quality USB cable and a compatible USB port (USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 ports can offer better performance if the drive supports it, though this model is primarily USB 2.0 compatible).
    • Close any unnecessary applications running in the background that might be consuming system resources.
