4. Setup and Installation

Installation of this mini-split system requires specialized tools and knowledge. It is strongly recommended that installation be performed by a certified HVAC technician.

4.1 Pre-Installation Considerations

  • Location: Select appropriate locations for both indoor and outdoor units, ensuring proper clearances and structural support.
  • Electrical Requirements: The unit operates on 208/230V. Ensure dedicated electrical circuits meet the system's requirements.
  • Line Set: A 1/4" x 5/8" line set is required (not included).
  • Drain Hose: A drain hose is required for condensate removal. The included hose may be short, requiring an extension (e.g., 5/8" ID drain hose).
  • Communication Cable: A 4-conductor, 14-gauge cable is needed to connect indoor and outdoor units.
  • Power Cable: A 3-conductor, 12-gauge cable is needed for the outdoor unit to the electrical switch box.

4.2 Key Installation Steps (Overview for Technician)

  1. Mount the indoor unit securely on the wall.
  2. Install the outdoor unit on a stable, level surface.
  3. Connect the refrigerant line set between the indoor and outdoor units. Ensure proper flaring and torqueing of connections.
  4. Connect electrical wiring for power and communication.
  5. Install the condensate drain line, ensuring proper slope for drainage.
  6. Vacuuming the Line Set: This critical step removes moisture and non-condensable gases. A digital gauge is recommended for accurate vacuum levels (below 400 microns). Water in the system can lead to acid formation and system failure.
  7. Leak test all connections.
  8. Release refrigerant into the system.
  9. Test run the system in all modes.
