5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps to install or replace your sediment filter cartridge:
- Turn off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve for your home and turn it off.
- Depressurize System: Open a nearby faucet to relieve pressure in the water lines.
- Open Filter Housing: Use a filter wrench to unscrew and remove the filter housing sump.
- Remove Old Filter: Discard the used filter cartridge. Clean the inside of the filter housing with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Inspect the O-ring for any damage and replace if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring with a silicone lubricant if needed.
- Insert New Filter: Carefully unwrap the new Tier1 sediment filter cartridge and insert it into the filter housing sump. Ensure it is seated correctly on the center standpipe.
- Close Filter Housing: Screw the filter housing sump back onto the cap, hand-tightening it first, then using the filter wrench for a snug fit. Do not overtighten.
- Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply.
- Check for Leaks: Monitor the filter housing for any leaks. If leaks occur, turn off the water, depressurize, and re-tighten the housing.
- Flush System: Open a cold water faucet for several minutes to flush out any air and fine particles from the new filter.

6. Operating Instructions
Once installed, the Tier1 sediment filter operates continuously as water flows through your whole house filtration system. It is designed for a flow rate of 5 gallons per minute (GPM) and effectively captures particles as small as 1 micron.
No further user interaction is required during normal operation until filter replacement is due.
7. Maintenance
Regular replacement of your sediment filter is crucial for maintaining optimal water quality and system performance. The recommended replacement interval for the Tier1 P1_10 filter is every 3 months. This interval may vary depending on the quality of your incoming water supply and household water usage. A noticeable decrease in water pressure is often an indicator that the filter is becoming clogged and requires replacement.
8. Troubleshooting
- Reduced Water Pressure:
Cause: The filter cartridge is likely clogged with accumulated sediment.
Solution: Replace the filter cartridge. Refer to Section 7: Maintenance.
- Water Leaks from Filter Housing:
Cause: Improperly seated O-ring, damaged O-ring, or loose housing sump.
Solution: Turn off water supply, depressurize, remove housing, inspect and reseat or replace the O-ring, then re-tighten the housing. Do not overtighten.
- Visible Sediment in Water After Filter Change:
Cause: Insufficient flushing after installation or improper filter seating.
Solution: Flush the system for a longer period (5-10 minutes). If the problem persists, turn off water, depressurize, and re-check filter seating.
