Introduction

The Korg Pa1000 Professional Arranger keyboard is designed to help musicians realize their musical ideas with world-class sounds. It combines Korg's renowned arrangement functions with features from their flagship Pa4X arranger. With over 420 styles, 1,700 sounds, and 600MB of storage for user samples, the Pa1000 is versatile for various composition styles. Its 7-inch TFT color touchscreen simplifies navigation and offers intuitive MIDI and effects control. Additionally, a mic/line/instrument input with studio-quality TC-Helicon effects processing makes the Pa1000 a powerful workstation for modern composers.

Setup

Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the Korg Pa1000 from its packaging. Retain all packing materials for future transport or storage. Inspect the instrument for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. If any damage is found, contact your dealer immediately.

Power Connection

Connect the supplied AC power cable to the AC IN jack on the rear panel of the Pa1000. Plug the other end into a suitable AC outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting. The power source is USB, but this refers to internal power management or specific USB functions, the main power is AC. Refer to the rear panel image for the AC IN jack location.

Audio Connections

For audio output, connect the main audio outputs (L/MONO, R) to your mixer, amplifier, or powered speakers using standard 1/4-inch TS cables. For headphone monitoring, use the 3.5mm headphone jack located on the front left side of the keyboard. The Pa1000 also features a built-in 2 x 33W speaker system for direct sound output.

USB Connectivity

The Pa1000 supports USB connectivity for data transfer and MIDI communication. Use the USB TO DEVICE port for connecting USB storage devices (e.g., flash drives) and the USB TO HOST port for connecting to a computer. This allows for easy transfer of Styles, Sounds, and other data, as well as integration with supported software like Cubase, Logic Pro, and Ableton Live.

Operating Instructions

Powering On/Off

To power on the unit, press the POWER button located on the rear panel. The 7-inch TFT color touchscreen will illuminate and display the KORG logo followed by the loading screen. To power off, press and hold the POWER button until the unit shuts down completely.

Navigating the Touchscreen

The 7-inch TFT color touchscreen is the primary interface for controlling the Pa1000. Tap on icons and menus to select functions, adjust parameters, and browse through sounds and styles. Use the physical buttons surrounding the screen for quick access to common functions like Style Play, Song Play, Sound, and Global settings.

Using Styles and Sounds

The Pa1000 comes with a vast library of over 420 Styles and 1,700 sounds. To select a Style, press the STYLE PLAY button and use the touchscreen to browse categories and choose your desired accompaniment. Similarly, press the SOUND button to access and select different instrument sounds. The keyboard features a 61-key layout suitable for various musical performances.

Defined Nuance Control (DNC)

DNC allows for adding realistic nuances to your performances. Utilize the three assignable switches and the four-way joystick to control elements like growls for saxophones, embouchure changes for trumpets, or breath sounds for harmonicas. Experiment with these controls to bring more expression to your playing.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To clean the Korg Pa1000, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish and electronic components. Regularly wipe down the keys and control surfaces to prevent dust buildup.

Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the Pa1000 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Covering the keyboard with a dust cover is recommended to protect it from dust and debris.

Transportation

If transporting the instrument, use a dedicated keyboard case or the original packaging to ensure its safety. Avoid subjecting the unit to excessive shocks or vibrations.
