2. Safety Information

  • Always follow assembly instructions precisely. Incorrect assembly can lead to instability and injury.
  • Ensure all bolts and screws are securely tightened before use. Periodically check and re-tighten as necessary.
  • Do not allow children to climb or play on the bed frame.
  • Distribute weight evenly across the bed frame. Exceeding the maximum weight recommendation can cause damage. The minimum weight recommendation for this frame is 317.52 kg.
  • Keep small parts and packaging materials away from children to prevent choking hazards.
  • Assembly may require two people for easier handling of larger components.

3. Package Contents

Please verify that all components are present before beginning assembly. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact Zinus customer support.

  • Headboard (1)
  • Side Rails (2)
  • Footboard (1)
  • Center Support Beam (1)
  • Support Legs (multiple, typically 3-5 depending on design)
  • Wood Slats (set)
  • Hardware Pack (bolts, screws, washers, Allen wrench, ratchet tool, spare parts)

4. Setup and Assembly

The ZINUS Santiago Platform Bed Frame is designed for easy assembly. A ratchet tool and spare parts are included in the hardware pack to assist with the process. It is recommended to have a second person for certain steps.

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging and lay them out on a clean, soft surface to prevent scratches.
  2. Attach Side Rails to Headboard: Align the side rails with the pre-drilled holes on the headboard. Secure them using the provided bolts and the ratchet tool. Do not fully tighten yet.
  3. Attach Side Rails to Footboard: Connect the other end of the side rails to the footboard, securing with bolts. Once all four connections are made, fully tighten all bolts connecting the side rails to the headboard and footboard.
  4. Install Center Support Beam: Attach the center support beam to the designated points on the headboard and footboard, or to the side rails, as per the specific design. Ensure it is centered and secure.
  5. Attach Support Legs: Screw or bolt the additional support legs to the center beam and/or side rails as indicated in the diagram. These provide crucial stability.
  6. Place Wood Slats: Unroll or place the wood slats across the bed frame. The slats feature non-slip tape and foam padded tape on the steel frame to prevent mattress movement and reduce noise. Ensure the Velcro strips on the slats align with those on the frame for secure attachment.

Once assembled, ensure the frame is level and stable before placing your mattress.

5. Operating and Usage

The ZINUS Santiago Platform Bed Frame is designed to provide strong support for your mattress without the need for a box spring. However, a box spring can be used if desired for additional height or a different feel.

  • Mattress Compatibility: This frame is suitable for memory foam, latex, or spring mattresses.
  • Clearance Space: The frame offers approximately 9 inches of clearance space underneath, useful for storage.
  • Noise Reduction: Foam padded tape on the steel frame and non-slip tape on the wooden slats are integrated to ensure a noise-free experience and prevent mattress shifting.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the wood frame with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the finish.
  • Hardware Check: Periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months) check all bolts and screws to ensure they remain tight. Re-tighten if any feel loose to maintain stability and prevent squeaking.
  • Slat Inspection: Ensure all wooden slats are properly seated and not damaged. Replace any broken slats immediately to maintain mattress support.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Squeaking Noises: If the bed frame squeaks, first ensure all bolts are securely tightened. The integrated foam padded tape is designed to prevent this, but loose connections can still cause noise. Check that the slats are properly aligned and seated.
  • Mattress Sliding: The non-slip tape on the wooden slats is designed to prevent mattress movement. If your mattress is still sliding, ensure the tape is clean and free of debris.
  • Instability: If the frame feels wobbly, re-check all connections and ensure all support legs are firmly on the ground and properly attached. Ensure the frame is on a level surface.
