User Manual

Product Overview

The Mercusys MW300RE 300 Mbps WiFi Range Extender is designed to eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones by wirelessly connecting to your existing internet router, strengthening, and extending its signal to areas it cannot reach alone. It also reduces signal interference to ensure reliable Wi-Fi coverage throughout your home or office.

Key Features:

  • Repeater Mode: Amplifies the Wi-Fi signal to previously inaccessible or hard-to-wire areas.
  • Three External Antennas with MIMO Technology: Distinguishes the MW300RE from ordinary repeaters by providing enhanced signal stability and range.
  • Easy Setup: Extend wireless coverage effortlessly with simple two-touch configuration or by pressing the WPS button.
  • Compact Design: Miniature size and wall-mounted design facilitate flexible deployment and movement.
  • Multi-color LED Signal Indicator: Helps you find the optimal location for the best Wi-Fi extension.

Setup Guide

Follow these steps to set up your Mercusys MW300RE Range Extender. There are two primary methods: using the WPS button or via a web browser.

Method 1: Using the WPS Button (Recommended for quick setup)

  1. Power On: Plug the MW300RE into an electrical outlet near your main router. Wait for the Signal LED to turn solid green, indicating it's ready.
  2. Press WPS on Router: Press the WPS button on your main Wi-Fi router.
  3. Press WPS on Extender: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your MW300RE Range Extender. The Signal LED on the extender should start blinking.
  4. Relocate Extender: Once the Signal LED on the extender turns solid green or orange, the connection is successful. You can now unplug the extender and move it to a location halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. Ensure the Signal LED remains solid green or orange for optimal performance.

Method 2: Via Web Browser (For more control or if WPS fails)

  1. Power On: Plug the MW300RE into an electrical outlet near your main router. Wait for the Signal LED to turn solid green.
  2. Connect to Extender's Network: On your computer or smartphone, connect to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the extender (e.g., "Mercusys_Extender"). There will be no internet access at this point.
  3. Access Web Management Page: Open a web browser and type http://mw300re.net or http://192.168.1.253 into the address bar.
  4. Create Login Password: You will be prompted to create a login password for the extender. This is important for security.
  5. Select Host Network: The extender will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your main router's Wi-Fi network from the list.
  6. Enter Host Network Password: Enter the Wi-Fi password for your main router's network. You can also choose to customize the extended network's name (SSID) at this step. It is recommended to use a different name than your main router's network to avoid confusion, as some users have reported issues when the names are identical.
  7. Confirm Settings: Review your settings and click "Save" or "Apply". The extender will restart.
  8. Relocate Extender: Once the Signal LED turns solid green or orange, the setup is complete. Unplug the extender and move it to an optimal location.

Operating the Range Extender

After successful setup, the MW300RE will automatically extend your Wi-Fi signal. Understanding the Signal LED is crucial for optimal performance.

Understanding the Signal LED:

  • Solid Green: Excellent signal strength from the main router. The extender is in an ideal location.
  • Solid Orange: Good signal strength. The extender is working, but a slightly better location might improve performance.
  • Solid Red: Poor signal strength or no connection to the main router. Relocate the extender closer to your router.
  • Blinking: The extender is attempting to connect or is in WPS pairing mode.
  • Off: The extender is powered off or not functioning.

Always aim for a solid green or orange light after relocating the extender to ensure the best possible Wi-Fi extension.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Mercusys MW300RE, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Placement: Avoid placing the extender in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in excessively humid environments.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Mercusys official website for firmware updates. Updates can improve performance, add features, and fix bugs.
  • Resetting the Device: If you encounter persistent issues or wish to reconfigure the extender from scratch, you can perform a factory reset. Locate the reset button (usually a small pinhole) on the device. With the extender powered on, use a paperclip or similar object to press and hold the reset button for about 5-10 seconds until the LEDs flash. The extender will then revert to its factory default settings.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your MW300RE Range Extender, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

1. Extender not connecting to the router or no internet access:

  • Check Signal LED: If the Signal LED is red or off, the extender is too far from the router or not connected. Relocate it closer.
  • Verify Router's Wi-Fi: Ensure your main router's Wi-Fi is working correctly and broadcasting a signal.
  • Incorrect Password: Double-check that you entered the correct Wi-Fi password for your main router during setup.
  • SSID Conflict (Web Setup): If you used the web browser setup and gave the extended network the exact same name (SSID) as your main router, try changing the extended network's name to something distinct (e.g., "YourNetwork_EXT"). This can prevent devices from trying to connect to the weaker signal.
  • Restart Devices: Power cycle both your main router and the MW300RE extender.
  • Factory Reset: If all else fails, perform a factory reset on the extender and repeat the setup process.

2. Weak or unstable extended Wi-Fi signal:

  • Optimal Placement: Ensure the extender is placed halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. The Signal LED should be solid green or orange.
  • Interference: Keep the extender away from devices that emit strong electromagnetic interference, such as microwaves, cordless phones, or large metal objects.
  • Obstacles: Walls, floors, and ceilings can significantly degrade Wi-Fi signals. Try to minimize the number of obstacles between the extender and your devices.

3. Cannot access the web management page (mw300re.net):

  • Direct Connection: Ensure your device is connected to the extender's Wi-Fi network (e.g., "Mercusys_Extender") and not your main router's network.
  • Clear Browser Cache: Try clearing your web browser's cache and cookies, or use a different browser.
  • IP Address: Try using the default IP address http://192.168.1.253 instead of the domain name.
  • Firewall/Antivirus: Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer that might be blocking access.
