4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide or unclip the cover to open the compartment.
- Insert two (2) AAA 1.5V batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Replace the battery compartment cover securely.
Note: Batteries are typically not included and must be purchased separately.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Power On/Off
- To power on the device, press the HOLD button (power symbol).
- To manually power off the device, press and hold the HOLD button for approximately 2 seconds.
- The device will automatically power off after 120 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.
5.2 Measuring Wood Moisture
- Remove the protective cap from the measurement pins.
- Gently push the measurement pins into the wood surface to be tested. Ensure both pins are fully inserted and make good contact with the wood.
- The moisture content percentage will be displayed on the LCD screen.
- After measurement, carefully withdraw the pins and replace the protective cap.
5.3 Selecting Wood Species Group
The GM610 allows adjustment for 4 different wood species groups to ensure accurate readings. Refer to the wood species chart (usually provided in a separate document or on the device itself) to determine the correct group for your wood type.
- Press the M/ENTER button to cycle through the wood species groups (M1, M2, M3, M4).
- Select the group that corresponds to the wood you are measuring.
5.4 Data Hold Function
To freeze the current reading on the display:
- While a measurement is being taken, briefly press the HOLD button. The reading will be held on the screen.
- Press the HOLD button again to release the reading and resume live measurement.
5.5 Backlight Control
To turn the display backlight on or off:
- Press the SET button to toggle the backlight.
5.6 Environmental Measurement
The device also displays the ambient temperature and relative humidity on the upper part of the LCD screen.
- The temperature unit (Celsius or Fahrenheit) can typically be switched by pressing and holding the SET button (refer to specific device instructions if this differs).
