4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safety and performance of your quick release skewers. Follow these steps carefully:

4.1 Identify Front and Rear Skewers

The set includes a shorter quick release skewer for the front wheel and a longer one for the rear wheel. Ensure you use the correct skewer for each wheel.

4.2 Installation Steps

  1. Prepare the Wheel: If replacing an existing skewer, remove the old one. Ensure the wheel hub is clean and free of debris.
  2. Insert the Hollow Shaft: Slide the appropriate hollow shaft (short for front, long for rear) through the center of the wheel hub.
  3. Add Springs and Nuts: Place one spring on each end of the hollow shaft, with the narrow end of the spring facing inwards towards the hub. Thread a nut onto one end of the hollow shaft.
  4. Position the Quick Release Lever: On the opposite end of the hollow shaft, slide the quick release lever mechanism onto the shaft.
  5. Mount the Wheel: Carefully place the wheel into the bicycle's dropouts (fork for front, frame for rear). Ensure the hollow shaft sits correctly within the dropouts.
  6. Tighten the Nut: With the quick release lever in the open position, tighten the nut on the opposite side until it makes contact with the dropout. Continue to tighten the nut until there is slight resistance when closing the quick release lever. The lever should require firm pressure to close, leaving an imprint on your palm, but not so much that it's impossible to close.
  7. Close the Lever: Flip the quick release lever to the closed position. The lever should be parallel to the fork blade or chainstay/seatstay for safety and aerodynamics.
  8. Check Security: After closing the lever, try to pull the wheel out of the dropouts. It should be firmly secured and not move. If it moves, open the lever, tighten the nut slightly more, and re-close the lever. Repeat until the wheel is secure.

5. Operating the Quick Release Skewer

The quick release mechanism allows for rapid wheel removal and installation without tools. To operate:

  1. To Open: Locate the quick release lever. Flip the lever outwards, away from the bicycle frame/fork, until it is fully open. This will release the clamping force on the wheel.
  2. To Remove Wheel: With the lever open, unscrew the nut on the opposite side a few turns until the wheel can be easily removed from the dropouts.
  3. To Install Wheel: Place the wheel back into the dropouts, ensuring the hollow shaft is seated correctly. Screw the nut back on until it makes light contact with the dropout.
  4. To Close: Apply firm pressure to the quick release lever and push it inwards towards the bicycle frame/fork until it snaps into the closed position. The lever should be parallel to the frame/fork.

Important Safety Note: Always ensure the quick release lever is fully closed and the wheel is securely fastened before riding. Failure to do so can result in serious injury.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will prolong the life of your CYSKY Quick Release Skewers and ensure safe operation.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the skewers with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of light grease or bicycle-specific lubricant to the threads of the hollow shaft and the pivot point of the quick release lever once every few months, or after exposure to wet conditions.
  • Inspection: Before each ride, visually inspect the skewers for any signs of damage, bending, or wear. Check that the springs are intact and properly positioned.
  • Tightness Check: Regularly check the tightness of the quick release mechanism. If the lever closes too easily or the wheel feels loose, re-adjust the nut as described in the Setup section.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your quick release skewers, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
