1. Important Safeguards

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:

2. Product Overview

The Continental Electric Professional Series 2-Slice Toaster (Model PS77411) is designed for efficient toasting of bread and bagels. It features a durable stainless steel exterior, extra-wide slots to accommodate various bread types, and a self-centering function for even toasting. The toaster includes an adjustable browning dial with 6 settings, along with dedicated buttons for Cancel, Reheat, and Defrost functions.

3. Setup

1. Unpack: Carefully remove the toaster and all packaging materials. Ensure all components are present and undamaged.
2. Placement: Place the toaster on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from flammable materials such as curtains or walls. Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
3. First Use: Before first use, operate the toaster without bread on the highest setting (6) for a few minutes. This will burn off any manufacturing residues and eliminate initial odors. A slight smoke or odor is normal during this process.
4. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Controls

The toaster features an adjustable browning dial and three function buttons:

• Browning Dial (1-6): Adjusts the toasting level from light (1) to dark (6).
• CANCEL Button: Stops the toasting cycle immediately and ejects the toast.
• REHEAT Button: Warms already toasted items without further browning.
• DEFROST Button: Toasts frozen bread, extending the toasting time to thaw and then toast.
• BAGEL Button: Toasts the cut side of bagels while gently warming the outer side.

4.2 Toasting Bread

1. Insert up to two slices of bread into the toaster slots.
2. Select your desired browning level using the browning dial (1 for light, 6 for dark).
3. Press the toast lever down until it locks into place. The indicator light for the selected function (if any) will illuminate.
4. The toaster will automatically raise the toast when the cycle is complete.
5. To stop toasting at any time, press the CANCEL button.

4.3 Using Special Functions

• Defrost: Place frozen bread in the slots, select your desired browning level, then press the toast lever down and press the DEFROST button. The DEFROST indicator light will illuminate.
• Reheat: Place already toasted bread in the slots, select your desired browning level, then press the toast lever down and press the REHEAT button. The REHEAT indicator light will illuminate.
• Bagel: Place cut bagels into the slots with the cut side facing inwards, select your desired browning level, then press the toast lever down and press the BAGEL button. The BAGEL indicator light will illuminate.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your toaster.

1. Always unplug the toaster from the electrical outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
2. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or metal scouring pads, as these can scratch the stainless steel finish.
3. Crumb Tray: Pull out the crumb tray located at the bottom of the toaster. Empty crumbs into a waste bin. Hand wash the crumb tray with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before reinserting. Do not wash the crumb tray in a dishwasher, as this may cause rust.
4. Interior Cleaning: Do not insert any objects into the toasting slots to clean. If food becomes lodged, unplug the toaster and carefully remove the food after the toaster has cooled.
