4.2 Camera Installation

The dome cameras are designed for both indoor and outdoor installation. Consider the following when choosing camera locations:

  • Coverage Area: Position cameras to cover desired surveillance areas, considering the varifocal lens adjustment range (22° to 115°).
  • Lighting: Avoid direct strong light sources that may cause glare. Ensure adequate ambient light for optimal image quality, especially for night vision.
  • Weather Protection: While cameras are IP66 weatherproof, installing them under eaves or protective covers can extend their lifespan.
  • Cable Routing: Plan cable routes to protect Ethernet cables from damage and environmental exposure.

4.3 Connecting Cameras (PoE)

The system utilizes Power over Ethernet (PoE) for simplified connectivity:

  1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable (60FT or 100FT provided) to the PoE port on the camera.
  2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to one of the PoE ports on the NVR.
  3. The NVR will automatically detect and power the camera. The camera's video feed should appear on the connected monitor.
  4. Repeat for all 8 cameras.

4.4 Varifocal Lens Adjustment

The 2.8-12mm varifocal lens allows you to manually adjust the camera's field of view and zoom level. This adjustment is typically done during installation to optimize coverage.

  • Access the camera's internal mechanism (refer to camera diagram).
  • Carefully rotate the zoom and focus rings on the lens until the desired field of view and image clarity are achieved on the monitor.
  • A smaller lens value (e.g., 2.8mm) provides a wider angle and shorter viewing distance. A larger lens value (e.g., 12mm) provides a narrower field of view and longer viewing distance.

Each image shows a different focal length (2.8mm, 3.6mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm) applied to a scene of a parking lot, illustrating how the field of view narrows and objects appear closer as the focal length increases.

Varifocal Zoom Lens Examples in a Street View

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Live View

Once cameras are connected, the NVR will display live video feeds on the connected monitor. You can switch between single-camera view and multi-camera grid views using the NVR interface.

5.2 Recording

The NVR is pre-configured for continuous recording to the 2TB hard drive. You can adjust recording settings (e.g., motion-triggered recording, schedules) via the NVR's menu. The H.265 video compression ensures efficient storage usage.

H.265 Video Compression Comparison

Image: A comparison illustrating the benefits of H.265 video compression over H.264. It shows that H.265 can save up to 50% of storage space and network bandwidth, with an example of 1 month of recording taking 1.2 TB with H.264 versus 625 GB with H.265.

5.3 Playback

To review recorded footage:

  1. Access the playback menu on the NVR.
  2. Select the desired camera and date/time range.
  3. Use the timeline to navigate through recordings. The system supports fast forward/rewind and searching by time queries.
  4. A 20X digital zoom is available in playback modes.

5.4 Remote Access (Mobile App & PC)

Access your security system remotely using the free GWVIEW app or standard web browsers on Mac/PC.

  1. Download App: Download the "GWVIEW" app from your smartphone's app store (iOS/Android).
  2. Scan QR Code: Use the app to scan the QR code displayed on the NVR's monitor or found on the NVR unit itself. This will add your device to the app.
  3. Live View & Playback: Once added, you can view live feeds, play back recordings, and receive alerts from anywhere with an internet connection.

5.5 AI Human/Vehicle Detection

The system features advanced AI detection to differentiate between human and vehicle movement and other motion sources.

  • Configuration: Enable and configure AI detection zones and sensitivity settings within the NVR's menu for each camera.
  • Alerts: When a human or vehicle is detected, the system can send instant app alerts and email notifications with screenshots.

5.6 Audio Surveillance

Each camera includes a built-in microphone for audio recording. This feature provides additional context to video footage.

  • Audio is recorded simultaneously with video.
  • Ensure audio recording is enabled in the NVR settings if desired.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Camera Cleaning

Periodically clean the camera lenses and domes to ensure clear image quality. Use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the lens or dome.

6.2 Firmware Updates

GW Security may release firmware updates to improve system performance or add new features. Check the official GW Security website or contact technical support for information on available updates and instructions for installation.

6.3 Hard Drive Management

The NVR's 2TB hard drive will automatically overwrite the oldest recordings when full. You can configure recording retention policies and manage storage settings through the NVR interface.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your GW Security system, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Video/Camera Offline: Check all Ethernet cable connections between the camera and NVR. Ensure the NVR is powered on. Verify the camera is detected in the NVR's IP camera management interface.
  • Poor Image Quality: Clean the camera lens/dome. Adjust the varifocal lens for optimal focus and zoom. Check for obstructions in the camera's field of view.
  • Remote Access Issues: Ensure the NVR is connected to the internet. Verify network settings and port forwarding (if required by your network configuration). Re-scan the QR code in the app.
  • No Recording: Check the hard drive status in the NVR settings. Ensure recording schedules are correctly configured.

For more complex issues or if troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem, please contact GW Security Technical Support.
