3.3 Connecting to Your Device
The microphone includes a built-in 3.5mm audio cable. Plug this cable into the 3.5mm microphone input jack on your DSLR camera, camcorder, or other compatible recording device.
3.4 Windscreen Usage
- Foam Windscreen: The microphone comes with a pre-installed foam windscreen, suitable for reducing light wind noise and plosives in indoor or calm outdoor environments.
- Furry 'Deadcat' Windscreen: For significant wind noise reduction (up to 40dB), slide the furry 'deadcat' windscreen over the foam windscreen. This is ideal for outdoor recording in windy conditions.
4. Operating Instructions
The control switches are located on the back of the microphone unit.
- Power Switch (ON/OFF): Slide the switch to 'ON' to power on the microphone. Ensure the microphone is powered off when not in use to conserve battery life.
- Gain Switch (0dB / +10dB):
- 0dB: Standard gain setting.
- +10dB: Boosts the audio signal by 10 decibels. Use this setting when recording quieter sources or when your camera's preamps are noisy, to achieve a stronger signal-to-noise ratio.
- Low-Cut Filter Switch: Activates a low-cut filter that reduces low-frequency sounds (e.g., air conditioning hum, traffic rumble). This helps to improve clarity of speech and other mid-to-high frequency sounds.
