Setup and Initial Configuration
Before using your DataTraveler 2000, you must set up a Personal Identification Number (PIN).
1. Initial Charging
The DataTraveler 2000 contains a small internal battery to power the keypad. It charges automatically when connected to a USB port. Ensure the drive is fully charged before initial use, indicated by the LED status.
2. Setting Your Administrator PIN
- Connect the DataTraveler 2000 to a USB port on your computer. The drive's LED will illuminate.
- Press the KEY button (key symbol) on the keypad.
- Enter your desired Administrator PIN. The PIN must be between 7 and 15 digits long and cannot contain all consecutive or repeating numbers (e.g., 1234567 or 1111111).
- Press the KEY button again to confirm your PIN.
- Re-enter your PIN to verify.
- Press the KEY button one last time. The LED will change color, indicating the PIN has been successfully set and the drive is unlocked.
Important: Remember your Administrator PIN. If you forget it, there is no recovery method, and your data will be inaccessible.
Operating Instructions

- Connect the DataTraveler 2000 to a USB port.
- Enter your Administrator PIN using the keypad.
- Press the KEY button. The drive will unlock, and the LED will indicate its unlocked status. The drive will now appear as a removable storage device on your computer.
Locking the Drive
To secure your data, always lock the drive when not in use.
- Method 1: Safely Remove Hardware
Safely eject the drive from your operating system. The drive will automatically lock upon disconnection. - Method 2: Manual Lock
While connected and unlocked, press the LOCK button (padlock symbol) on the keypad. The drive will lock immediately. - Method 3: Auto-Lock
The drive will automatically lock after a period of inactivity (default setting).
Data Transfer
Once unlocked, the DataTraveler 2000 functions like any standard USB flash drive. You can drag and drop files, copy, paste, and delete data as needed.
For optimal performance, ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 (or higher) port. The drive is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports, but data transfer speeds will be reduced.
Maintenance and Care
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the drive. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the drive in a cool, dry place. Always keep the protective cap on the USB connector when not in use to prevent dust and moisture ingress.
- Battery: The internal battery charges when the drive is connected to a USB port. No specific charging routine is required.
- Waterproof/Dustproof: While designed to be waterproof and dustproof, avoid prolonged submersion or exposure to extreme conditions. Ensure the cap is securely in place for maximum protection.
