2. Compatibility
The LiftMaster 841LM 12V lock is exclusively compatible with the following LiftMaster garage door opener models:
- 8550WL
- 8587WL
- 8360WL
- 8500W
Important: This lock is not interchangeable with the 24V locks used on residential jackshaft garage door opener models 3800, 3900, and 8500. Ensure your garage door opener displays the shield icon, indicating compatibility with this automatic lock.
3. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when working with garage door systems. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.
- Disconnect Power: Always disconnect the garage door opener from its power source before performing any installation, maintenance, or repair.
- Read Instructions: Read this entire manual and your garage door opener's manual thoroughly before beginning installation.
- Professional Installation: If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified garage door technician.
- Moving Parts: Keep hands and clothing clear of all moving parts of the garage door and opener during operation.
4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of your LiftMaster 841LM Automatic Garage Door Lock.
- Prepare the Area: Ensure the garage door is fully closed and the garage door opener is unplugged from its power source.
- Identify Mounting Location: Locate the appropriate mounting position on the garage door track. Many compatible garage door tracks have pre-drilled holes for this lock. Refer to your garage door opener manual for specific guidance.
- Drill Holes (if necessary): If pre-drilled holes are not present, use the provided template (if included with your lock) to mark and drill the necessary holes in the garage door track. Ensure there is sufficient clearance between the lock mechanism and the garage door rollers. A step drill bit may be useful for this task.
- Mount the Lock: Securely attach the 841LM lock to the garage door track using the provided screws and hardware. Ensure the lock is firmly in place and does not obstruct the movement of the garage door.
- Connect Wiring: Route the lock's wiring to the garage door opener. Connect the wires to the designated "Lock Terminals" on your compatible LiftMaster garage door opener. These terminals are typically labeled and located near the other control wire connections. Refer to your opener's manual for exact terminal identification. Ensure adequate wiring length is available; if the provided wire is too short, proper splicing with appropriate gauge wire may be required.
- Test Operation: Reconnect power to the garage door opener. Operate the garage door through a full open and close cycle. Observe the 841LM lock to ensure it engages smoothly when the door closes and disengages when the door opens.
- Optional: For enhanced security, consider installing a second 841LM lock on the opposite side of the garage door.

5. Operating Instructions
The LiftMaster 841LM Automatic Garage Door Lock operates seamlessly with your compatible garage door opener.
- Automatic Locking: When your garage door opener closes the door completely, the 841LM lock will automatically extend its deadbolt into the track, securing the door. You will hear an audible click as the lock engages, providing assurance that the door is closed and secure.
- Automatic Unlocking: When you activate your garage door opener to open the door, the 841LM lock will automatically retract its deadbolt, allowing the door to open.
- Manual Release: In the event of a power outage or if the automatic system malfunctions, the 841LM lock is equipped with a manual release mechanism. This allows you to disengage the lock manually to open the garage door.

To ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your 841LM Automatic Garage Door Lock, perform the following maintenance checks periodically:
- Visual Inspection: Regularly inspect the lock mechanism for any visible signs of wear, damage, or corrosion.
- Clear Obstructions: Ensure that the path of the deadbolt is clear of any debris or obstructions that could prevent it from engaging or disengaging properly.
- Check Fasteners: Verify that all mounting screws and fasteners are tight and secure.
- Wiring Integrity: Inspect the wiring for any fraying, cuts, or loose connections.
- Smooth Operation: Manually test the lock's engagement and disengagement to ensure smooth movement.
