4. Setup

  1. Prepare Your Machine: Open your Cricut Maker machine. Ensure the star wheels on the roller bar are moved all the way to the right to prevent impressions on your material.
  2. Insert the Knife Blade: Open Clamp B on your Cricut Maker. Carefully insert the Knife Blade and Drive Housing into Clamp B until it clicks into place. Close the clamp securely.
  3. Load Material: Place your chosen material onto a StrongGrip Mat. For best results with thicker materials, secure the material to the mat using masking tape on all four sides.
  4. Calibration (First Use Recommended): For optimal precision, especially during the first use, calibrate the Knife Blade through the Design Space software. Follow the on-screen prompts to use a sheet of printer paper for calibration.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Design in Design Space: Create or select your design in Cricut Design Space on your desktop computer. Ensure your design is suitable for the Knife Blade (images or details larger than 0.75 inches).
  2. Select Material Settings: In Design Space, select the appropriate material setting for your project (e.g., 1.5mm Matboard, 2mm Chipboard). The software will automatically adjust the number of passes required for a clean cut.
  3. Load Mat: Load the StrongGrip Mat with your material into the Cricut Maker machine.
  4. Start Cutting: Follow the prompts in Design Space to begin the cutting process. The Knife Blade will perform multiple passes to cut through the material. This process can take a significant amount of time depending on the material and complexity of the design. Ensure your computer does not go to sleep during this process.
  5. Unload Material: Once cutting is complete, Design Space will prompt you to check the cut. If satisfactory, unload the mat from the machine. Carefully remove the cut material from the StrongGrip Mat using appropriate tools to avoid damage.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Cricut Knife Blade, regular maintenance is recommended:

  • Clean the Blade: After each use, carefully remove any debris or material residue from the blade using a soft brush or cloth.
  • Inspect for Damage: Periodically check the blade for any signs of dullness, bending, or damage. A dull blade can lead to poor cut quality and potential damage to your material.
  • Replace When Necessary: The Knife Blade is a consumable item and will eventually dull. Replace the blade when you notice a decrease in cut quality, even after cleaning. Replacement blades are available separately.
  • Proper Storage: Store the Knife Blade in its protective cap or within the Cricut Maker machine's tool storage when not in use to prevent accidental damage or injury.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while using your Cricut Knife Blade, consider the following:

  • Poor Cut Quality: Ensure the blade is clean and sharp. Recalibrate the Knife Blade in Design Space. Verify that the correct material setting is selected for your project.
  • Material Shifting: Always use a StrongGrip Mat and secure your material with masking tape on all four sides, especially for thicker or heavier materials. Ensure the mat is clean and has sufficient adhesive.
  • Blade Not Cutting Through: Confirm that the Knife Blade is correctly inserted into Clamp B. Check the material settings in Design Space to ensure they match your material's thickness and type. Multiple passes are normal for thick materials.
  • Design Space Issues: Ensure your Design Space software is up to date. Remember that Knife Blade projects require a desktop computer and are not compatible with mobile devices.
