SILENT KNIGHT SK-RELAY

Silent Knight SK-RELAY Addressable Relay Module Instruction Manual

1. Product Overview

The Silent Knight SK-RELAY is an addressable relay module designed for seamless integration with Silent Knight IntelliKnight series fire alarm control panels (FACPs). This module enables the FACP to remotely switch discrete contacts based on programmed code commands. It features two isolated sets of Form C contacts, functioning as a Double-Pole, Double-Throw (DPDT) switch, suitable for various normally open or normally closed applications. Each SK-RELAY module is assigned a unique Signaling Line Circuit (SLC) loop address, allowing the FACP to trigger the relay upon specific event occurrences.

Key Features:

  • Addressable for precise control within the fire alarm system.
  • Compatible with IntelliKnight series Fire Alarm Control Panels.
  • Equipped with two sets of Form C contacts for versatile switching.
  • Features rotary address switches for quick and straightforward installation.
  • Contacts are rated for various current capacities (refer to specifications).
  • Includes a panel-controlled status LED that flashes green during normal operation and illuminates solid red in an alarm state.
  • Flexible relay programming, allowing mapping to specific zone conditions.
  • Polling LED visible through the cover plate for easy status verification.

2. Installation and Setup

Mounting:

The SK-RELAY module is designed for panel mount installation. Ensure the mounting location is secure, dry, and within the specified environmental conditions for fire alarm system components. Refer to local codes and standards for proper mounting procedures.

Wiring:

The module utilizes quick connect terminals for wiring. Connect the Signaling Line Circuit (SLC) wires to the designated terminals. The two isolated sets of Form C contacts (2NO 2NC) provide flexibility for connecting to various devices. Ensure all wiring adheres to NFPA 72 and local electrical codes. Do not apply power until all connections are verified.

Addressing:

Each SK-RELAY module must be assigned a unique address on the SLC loop using the integrated rotary address switches. Carefully set the switches to the desired address as per your system's design and programming. Incorrect addressing can lead to system malfunctions.

3. Operation

Once installed and addressed, the SK-RELAY module communicates with the IntelliKnight FACP via the SLC loop. The FACP sends commands to the module based on programmed logic, such as zone conditions or specific events. Upon receiving a command, the module's internal relay activates, switching its Form C contacts. This allows the FACP to control external devices like door holders, fans, or other auxiliary equipment.

The module's status LED provides visual feedback: it flashes green during normal polling by the FACP and illuminates solid red when the relay is activated by an alarm or programmed event.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the reliable operation of the SK-RELAY module and the overall fire alarm system. It is recommended to perform periodic visual inspections to ensure the module is free from dust, debris, and physical damage. Always ensure the unit is de-energized prior to servicing to prevent electrical shock or damage to the module or system components.

Refer to the complete system maintenance schedule provided by Silent Knight and adhere to all applicable local and national fire safety codes and standards.

5. Troubleshooting

If the SK-RELAY module is not functioning as expected, consider the following:

  • LED Status: Observe the status LED. A flashing green LED indicates normal communication with the FACP. A solid red LED indicates the relay is activated. If the LED is off, check power and SLC connections.
  • Addressing: Verify that the rotary address switches are set correctly and uniquely for the module on the SLC loop.
  • Wiring: Inspect all wiring connections for looseness, corrosion, or incorrect termination. Ensure proper polarity for SLC connections.
  • FACP Programming: Confirm that the FACP is correctly programmed to control the specific address of the SK-RELAY module and that the desired logic for activation is configured.
  • System Diagnostics: Utilize the diagnostic tools available on your IntelliKnight FACP to check for SLC loop faults or communication errors related to the module's address.

If issues persist after basic troubleshooting, contact a qualified fire alarm technician or Silent Knight technical support.
