1. Introduction

The Landtek GM-26 Glossmeter is a precision instrument designed for accurate measurement of gloss levels on various surfaces. It features dual measurement angles of 20° and 60°, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from high gloss to semi-gloss finishes. The device is equipped with a 4-digit backlit LCD display and internal memory for data storage.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully unpack the GM-26 Glossmeter and all accessories. Verify that all components are present and undamaged. The package should include the glossmeter, a calibration standard, a USB cable, a power adapter, and a user manual.

4.2 Charging the Battery

Before first use, ensure the built-in Lithium Ion rechargeable battery is fully charged. Connect the provided USB cable to the glossmeter's charging port and the power adapter. Plug the adapter into a suitable power outlet. The charging indicator will illuminate during charging and change status when fully charged.

4.3 Power On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the POWER button (usually marked with a red circle) until the display illuminates. To power off, press and hold the same button until the display turns off.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Calibration

For accurate measurements, calibrate the glossmeter before each use or if readings appear inconsistent. Use the provided calibration standard plate.

1. Ensure the calibration standard plate and the glossmeter's measurement aperture are clean and free of dust or smudges.
2. Place the glossmeter firmly and flatly on the calibration standard plate.
3. Press the CAL button. Follow any on-screen prompts. The device will perform an automatic calibration.
4. A successful calibration will typically display a confirmation message or the reference value of the standard.

5.2 Selecting Measurement Angle

The GM-26 supports 20° and 60° measurement angles. Press the ANGLE button to toggle between these two modes. The selected angle will be indicated on the LCD.

5.3 Taking a Measurement

1. Ensure the glossmeter is calibrated and the correct measurement angle is selected.
2. Place the glossmeter's measurement aperture firmly and flatly onto the surface to be measured. Ensure there are no gaps between the aperture and the surface.
3. Press the MEAS button. The gloss value will be displayed on the LCD.
4. Hold the device steady during measurement to ensure accuracy.

5.4 Data Storage and Retrieval

The GM-26 can store up to 254 groups of measurement data. Refer to the detailed product manual for specific instructions on how to save, view, and manage stored data. Use the RD button to recall stored data and the DEL button to delete data. Exercise caution when deleting data as it cannot be recovered.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Regularly clean the measurement aperture and the device's exterior with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the optics or casing.
• Storage: When not in use, store the glossmeter in its original protective carrying case. Keep it in a dry, dust-free environment away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures (0-40°C / 32-104°F), and high humidity (<85% RH).
• Battery Care: To prolong battery life, recharge the internal Lithium Ion battery regularly, even if the device is not used frequently. Avoid fully discharging the battery for extended periods. Do not expose the battery to high temperatures or puncture it.
• Calibration Standard: Keep the calibration standard plate clean and protected. Any scratches or dirt on the standard will affect calibration accuracy.

7. Troubleshooting

• Device Does Not Turn On:
  • Check if the battery is charged. Connect the device to the charger and allow it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.
  • Ensure the power button is pressed and held correctly.
• Inaccurate or Inconsistent Readings:
  • Perform a calibration using the provided standard plate. Ensure the standard is clean.
  • Verify that the measurement aperture is clean and free of dust, fingerprints, or debris.
  • Ensure the glossmeter is placed firmly and flatly on the surface being measured, with no gaps or wobbling.
  • Check for environmental factors such as extreme temperature fluctuations or strong light sources that might interfere with readings.
• Display Shows Error Message:
  • Note the specific error code or message. Refer to the comprehensive user manual for a list of error codes and their corresponding solutions.
  • If the error persists after following troubleshooting steps, contact customer support.
