Safety Information
Please read this section carefully before using the device to ensure safe operation and to prevent injury or damage.
- Do not step on the scale with wet feet or if the surface is wet, as this may cause slipping.
- The scale is designed for personal use and is not intended for medical or commercial purposes.
- Keep batteries out of reach of children. If swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the scale yourself. Contact authorized service personnel.
- Avoid strong impacts or dropping the scale, as it contains sensitive electronic components and a glass surface.
- Individuals with medical implants (e.g., pacemakers) should not use this scale, as the electrical current used for body analysis may interfere with the implant.
Setup
1. Battery Installation
Your Beurer BF 185 scales require 4 x 1.5 V AAA batteries (included). Ensure correct polarity when inserting the batteries.

- Level 2: Light physical activity (e.g., walking).
- Level 3: Moderate physical activity (e.g., regular exercise 1-2 times/week).
- Level 4: Active physical activity (e.g., regular exercise 3-4 times/week).
- Level 5: Very active physical activity (e.g., intense exercise daily).

Figure 3: Understanding Activity Levels. This image depicts an active individual, emphasizing the importance of selecting the correct activity level for accurate metabolic rate calculations. The scale uses this input to provide a more personalized analysis.
Operating Instructions
1. Taking a Measurement
The Beurer BF 185 features quick-start technology for immediate weight measurement. For full body analysis, ensure your feet are bare and make good contact with the electrodes.
- Gently tap the scale with your foot to turn it on, or simply step on it.
- Wait for "0.0 kg" to appear on the display.
- Step onto the scale barefoot, ensuring your feet are positioned on the four metallic electrodes. Stand still.
- The scale will first display your weight, then cycle through body fat, body water, muscle percentage, bone mass, and AMR.
- The measurements will be saved to your selected user profile.
2. Active Metabolic Rate (AMR) Calculation
The AMR indicates the daily calorie requirement of your body when active. This is calculated based on your entered personal data (gender, age, height, activity level) and your measured body composition.
3. Automatic Shut-off
The scale will automatically turn off after a few seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Clean the scale regularly to ensure hygiene and accurate readings.
- Wipe the surface with a damp cloth and a mild detergent if necessary.
- Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or immerse the scale in water.
- Ensure the scale is completely dry before storage or next use.
2. Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace all 4 AAA batteries simultaneously. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section under Setup.
3. Storage
Store the scale in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
