3. Setup

3.1 Powering the Radio

The Sony XDR-S61D can be powered by either the supplied AC adapter or batteries.

AC Adapter Operation:

  1. Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN jack on the back of the radio.
  2. Plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet.

Battery Operation:

This radio requires 1 unknown type of battery (not included). Please refer to the battery compartment for specific battery type and quantity.

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.

  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Antenna Adjustment

3.3 Initial Scan (DAB/DAB+)

Upon first power-on or after a factory reset, the radio will automatically perform a full scan for available DAB/DAB+ stations.

  1. Turn on the radio by pressing the POWER button.
  2. The radio will display "Scanning..." and begin searching for digital radio stations.
  3. Once the scan is complete, the radio will tune to the first available station.

Note: If you move the radio to a new location, it is recommended to perform a new scan to find local stations.

4. Operating the Radio

4.1 Power On/Off

Press the POWER button located on the top of the radio to turn the unit on or off.

4.2 Selecting Radio Mode (DAB/FM)

Press the MODE button (usually labeled 'DAB/FM' or similar) to switch between DAB/DAB+ and FM radio modes.

4.3 Tuning Stations

DAB/DAB+ Tuning:

  1. In DAB mode, use the TUNE +/- or rotary dial to scroll through the list of available stations.
  2. Press ENTER or the center of the dial to select a station.

FM Tuning:

  1. In FM mode, use the TUNE +/- or rotary dial to manually tune to a frequency.
  2. Press and hold TUNE +/- or the AUTO TUNE button for automatic scanning to the next available station.

4.4 Saving and Recalling Presets

The radio allows you to save up to 5 favorite stations using the direct preset buttons (1-5) on the top panel.

To Save a Preset:

  1. Tune to the desired station.
  2. Press and hold one of the numbered preset buttons (1-5) until the display confirms the station has been saved.

To Recall a Preset:

Simply press the desired numbered preset button (1-5) briefly to tune to the saved station.

4.5 Setting the Alarm Clock

The radio features a wake-up timer. Refer to the specific menu options on your radio's display for detailed alarm setup.

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Navigate to the "Alarm" or "Timer" settings using the TUNE +/- or rotary dial.
  3. Select the alarm time, source (buzzer or radio station), and volume.
  4. Confirm your settings.

4.6 Setting the Sleep Timer

The sleep timer allows the radio to turn off automatically after a set period.

  1. Press the SLEEP button repeatedly to cycle through available sleep times (e.g., 15, 30, 60, 90 minutes, OFF).
  2. The selected sleep time will be displayed. The radio will automatically turn off after this duration.

4.7 Using the Headphone Jack

Connect standard 3.5mm headphones to the headphone jack for private listening. The radio's speaker will be muted automatically when headphones are connected.
