2. Safety Information
To ensure safe operation and prevent damage, please observe the following safety precautions:
- Power Supply: Connect the subwoofer only to a power outlet of the specified voltage. Ensure the power cord is not pinched or walked on.
- Ventilation: Do not block any ventilation openings. Allow adequate space around the subwoofer for proper airflow to prevent overheating.
- Water and Moisture: Do not expose the subwoofer to rain, moisture, or liquids. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the subwoofer.
- Heat Sources: Keep the subwoofer away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other heat-producing appliances.
- Cleaning: Unplug the subwoofer from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use a dry cloth for cleaning.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service this product yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

4. Setup
4.1 Placement
The placement of your subwoofer significantly impacts its performance. Experiment with different locations to find the optimal sound for your room. Generally, placing the subwoofer in a corner or near a wall can enhance bass output. Ensure the subwoofer is placed on a stable surface.

4.2 Connections
Before making any connections, ensure the subwoofer and all connected audio equipment are turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.
- LFE Input: If your AV receiver or processor has a dedicated Subwoofer/LFE output, connect it to the LFE input (RCA) on the Cub Evo. This is the recommended connection for home theater systems.
- Line Inputs (Left/Right): If your amplifier or pre-amplifier does not have an LFE output, use the stereo RCA line inputs (Left and Right) to connect to the pre-out or line-out of your audio source.
- Power Connection: Once audio connections are made, connect the power cable to the subwoofer's power inlet and then to a suitable wall outlet.

5. Operating
After connecting your subwoofer, you can power it on and adjust its settings for optimal performance.
5.1 Power On/Off and Auto Power Function
- Power Switch: Locate the main power switch on the rear panel. Flip it to the "ON" position to power on the subwoofer.
- Auto Power: The Cub Evo features an auto power function. When set to "Auto," the subwoofer will automatically turn on when it detects an audio signal and enter standby mode after a period of inactivity. This conserves energy.
5.2 Controls
The rear panel features several controls to fine-tune the subwoofer's output:
- Volume: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low setting and gradually increase until the bass blends seamlessly with your main speakers.
- Crossover: This knob sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Frequencies above this point will be sent to your main speakers. Adjust this based on the low-frequency capabilities of your main speakers. A common starting point is 80Hz.
- Phase (0°/180°): This switch adjusts the phase of the subwoofer's output relative to your main speakers. Experiment with both settings to find the one that produces the most coherent and impactful bass. Listen for the strongest and clearest bass response.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your subwoofer.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the cabinet. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
- Dust: Regularly dust the subwoofer to prevent accumulation, especially around the driver and ventilation ports.
- Environment: Avoid exposing the subwoofer to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight, which can damage the finish and internal components.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Focal Cub Evo subwoofer, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- No Sound:
- Ensure the subwoofer is plugged into a working power outlet and the power switch is "ON" or "Auto."
- Check all audio cables (LFE or Line Inputs) are securely connected to both the subwoofer and your audio source.
- Verify the volume control on the subwoofer is not set to minimum.
- Confirm your AV receiver/processor's subwoofer output is enabled and its volume is appropriately set.
- Distorted or Boomy Sound:
- Adjust the subwoofer's volume control to a lower level.
- Experiment with the Crossover frequency setting. If it's too high, it might overlap too much with your main speakers.
- Try adjusting the Phase switch (0° or 180°) to see which setting provides a tighter, more integrated bass.
- Consider repositioning the subwoofer. Moving it away from corners or walls can reduce boominess.
- Subwoofer Does Not Turn On Automatically (Auto Mode):
- Ensure the input signal level from your audio source is sufficient. Some sources may have a very low output that the auto-sensing feature might not detect.
- Check that the power switch is set to "Auto."
