Setup

Powering the Unit

The SB2129BG can be powered by either AC power or batteries.

  1. AC Power: Connect the detachable AC power cord to the AC input jack on the unit and then to a standard wall outlet.
  2. Battery Power: For portable use, open the battery compartment on the back of the unit. Insert 6 'C' size batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Close the battery compartment securely.

Antenna Adjustment

For optimal FM radio reception, extend the telescopic antenna fully and adjust its position. For AM reception, the unit has a built-in antenna, so no external adjustment is needed, but repositioning the unit may improve reception.

Operating Instructions

Radio Operation

  1. Set the Radio/Tape/Off switch to RADIO.
  2. Select your desired band (AM or FM) using the AM/FM Selector switch.
  3. Rotate the Tuning Knob to find your desired radio station.
  4. Adjust the Volume Knob to your preferred listening level.
  5. For FM, extend and adjust the telescopic antenna for best reception.

Cassette Player/Recorder Operation

  1. Set the Radio/Tape/Off switch to TAPE.
  2. Press the Stop/Eject button to open the cassette compartment.
  3. Insert a cassette tape with the open edge facing upwards and the tape side facing you. Close the compartment door.
  4. To Play: Press the Play button.
  5. To Record: Press the Record button (this will also engage Play). The unit can record from the radio, the built-in microphone, or the auxiliary input. Ensure the correct source is selected via the AUX switch or radio tuning.
  6. To Fast Forward/Rewind: Press the F.FWD or REW buttons.
  7. To Pause: Press the Pause button. Press again to resume playback/recording.
  8. To Stop/Eject: Press the Stop/Eject button. The cassette compartment will open.
  9. Auto Stop Feature: The cassette player features an auto-stop mechanism that automatically stops the tape when it reaches the end during playback or recording.

Auxiliary Input Operation

  1. Connect an external audio device (e.g., MP3 player, smartphone) to the AUX IN jack using a 3.5mm audio cable (not included).
  2. Set the AUX switch to ON.
  3. Start playback on your external device.
  4. Adjust the Volume Knob on the SB2129BG and/or your external device for desired sound level.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Cassette Head Cleaning: Periodically clean the cassette heads with a specialized cassette head cleaning kit to ensure optimal sound quality and prevent tape damage.

Troubleshooting

  • Poor Radio Reception: Extend and adjust the telescopic antenna (for FM). Reposition the unit for better AM reception. Avoid placing the unit near other electronic devices that may cause interference.
  • Cassette Not Playing/Recording: Ensure the cassette is inserted correctly. Check that the Radio/Tape/Off switch is set to TAPE. Clean cassette heads if sound is distorted or absent.
  • No Sound from AUX Input: Ensure the external device is playing and its volume is up. Check that the AUX switch is set to ON. Verify the audio cable connection.
