Setup and Installation

Rack Mounting

The KVM 1708 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Use the included rack mount kit to secure the unit in your server rack. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

Connecting Computers

1. Power Off: Ensure all computers and the KVM switch are powered off before making any connections.
2. Connect KVM Cables: For each computer, connect one end of the supplied VGA/USB KVM cable to the corresponding VGA output and USB port on your computer.
3. Connect to KVM Switch: Connect the other end of the KVM cable to an available PC port (PC1-PC8) on the rear of the KVM switch. Ensure the VGA connector is securely fastened and the USB connector is fully inserted.
4. Connect External Console (Optional): If you wish to use an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, connect them to the dedicated console ports on the rear of the KVM switch.
5. Connect Power: Connect the power adapter to the DC12V input on the rear of the KVM switch, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.
6. Power On: First, power on the KVM switch. Then, power on all connected computers.

Operating Instructions

Switching Between Computers

The KVM 1708 offers multiple methods for switching between connected computers:

• Front Panel Buttons: Press the corresponding numbered button on the front panel of the KVM switch to select a computer.
• Hotkey Commands: Use specific keyboard hotkey combinations to switch computers. Common hotkeys include:
  • Press [Scroll Lock] twice quickly, then press the number key (1-8) corresponding to the desired computer.
  • Press [Scroll Lock] twice quickly, then press [Up Arrow] or [Down Arrow] to cycle through computers.
  • Refer to the hotkey sticker on the keyboard for a complete list of commands.
• On-Screen Display (OSD): Access the OSD menu by pressing a specific hotkey (usually [Scroll Lock] twice, then [F12] or similar, refer to manual/sticker). The OSD allows for more advanced control, including auto-scan, OSD settings, and direct port selection.

Keyboard and Touchpad Usage

The integrated 104-key keyboard and touchpad function as standard input devices. No special drivers are typically required for basic operation.

External USB Port

The front-mounted USB port allows you to connect external USB devices, such as a USB flash drive or an additional peripheral, which will be accessible by the currently selected computer.

Maintenance
