- Dry: Ensure all components are completely dry before reassembling or storing the percolator.
7. Descaling
Limescale buildup can affect the performance and lifespan of your percolator. Regular descaling is recommended, especially in areas with hard water.
- Prepare Descaling Solution: Use a commercial descaling agent suitable for coffee machines, following the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, you can use a mixture of vinegar and water (e.g., 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water).
- Fill Percolator: Pour the descaling solution into the percolator.
- Heat Solution: Switch on the percolator and bring the solution to a boil. Allow it to act for approximately fifteen minutes.
- Empty and Rinse: Turn off and unplug the percolator. Carefully empty the hot solution. Rinse the interior thoroughly several times with fresh water to remove any descaling agent residue and eliminate the taste and smell of vinegar.
