Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. It is recommended that installation be performed by a qualified car audio technician.
1. Power Connections
- Connect the +12V terminal to the vehicle's positive battery terminal (fused).
- Connect the GND terminal to a clean chassis ground point.
- Connect the REM (remote turn-on) terminal to the remote output of your head unit.
2. Audio Input Connections
The PROX4.1 accepts 2-channel RCA front/full range stereo input. Connect the RCA outputs from your head unit or other audio source to the FRONT IN RCA inputs on the PROX4.1.

3. Audio Output Connections
Connect the RCA outputs from the PROX4.1 to the corresponding inputs on your amplifiers. The PROX4.1 provides the following outputs:
- FLAT OUT: Full-range signal output.
- LOW REAR OUT: Low-frequency output, typically for rear speakers or subwoofers.
- MID LOW OUT: Mid-low frequency output.
- MID HIGH OUT: Mid-high frequency output.
- HIGH OUT: High-frequency output, typically for tweeters.
4. Phase Inversion Switch
An optional 180-degree phase inversion switch is available for the front/full range input. This can be used to correct phase issues in your audio system, which may improve bass response and sound staging.
Operating Instructions
The PROX4.1 features several adjustable controls to fine-tune your audio system's frequency response.
1. Level Controls
Each output section (Flat, Low Rear, Mid Low, Mid High, High) has a dedicated level control knob. Adjust these to balance the volume of each frequency range relative to others.
2. Crossover Adjustments
Use a small screwdriver to adjust the variable crossover points for each section:
- High Out: Adjust the high-pass crossover from 1kHz to 10kHz.
- Mid High Out: Adjust the high-pass crossover from 550Hz to 3kHz and the low-pass crossover from 4kHz to 20kHz.
- Mid Low Out: Adjust the high-pass crossover from 50Hz to 400Hz and the low-pass crossover from 30Hz to 5kHz.
- Low Rear Out: Adjust the low-pass crossover from 50Hz to 350Hz.
3. Subsonic Filter (Low Rear Out)
The Low Rear output includes an optional 3-stage 24dB subsonic filter. This filter helps protect subwoofers from playing frequencies below their effective range, improving sound quality and preventing damage. Engage this filter as needed.
4. Mono/Stereo Switch
A switch is available to select between mono and stereo input processing. Ensure this is set correctly for your source signal.
Maintenance
The Soundstream PROX4.1 is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Connections: Periodically check all power and audio connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to signal loss or noise.
- Environment: Ensure the unit is installed in a location that is protected from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No audio output | No power, incorrect wiring, input/output levels too low. | Check power connections (12V, GND, REM). Verify RCA input/output connections. Increase level controls. |
| Distorted audio | Input signal too high, output levels too high, incorrect crossover settings. | Reduce input signal level from head unit. Lower output level controls on PROX4.1. Adjust crossover frequencies. |
| Hissing or background noise | Ground loop, poor RCA cable shielding, gain staging issues. | Ensure proper grounding. Use high-quality shielded RCA cables. Adjust gain levels carefully, starting low. Isolate power and audio cables. |
| Weak or no bass | Incorrect low-pass crossover setting, phase issue, subwoofer level too low. | Adjust Low Rear Out low-pass frequency. Check 180-degree phase switch. Increase Low Rear Out level. |
