Product Overview
The Innova Equus 5100 Carscan ABS/SRS is an advanced diagnostic tool designed to assist in vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting. It retrieves Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) on most OBD-II compliant vehicles. The device also performs network scans, offers battery initialization, oil and battery light reset functions, and allows for recording and viewing of Powertrain, ABS, and SRS Live Data. Optional OBD1 coverage is available for older vehicles manufactured between 1982 and 1995.

Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection
Carefully remove the Innova 5100 tool from its packaging. Inspect the device for any signs of damage. Ensure all components, including the main unit and the OBD-II cable, are present.
2. Battery Installation
The device requires 3 AA batteries for operation. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit. Open the compartment, insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators, and securely close the cover. The device can also draw power directly from the vehicle's OBD-II port.
3. Connecting to Vehicle
- Locate the vehicle's 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC). This is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side.
- Ensure the vehicle's ignition is in the OFF position.
- Connect the OBD-II cable from the Innova 5100 tool to the vehicle's DLC. Ensure a firm connection.
- Turn the vehicle's ignition to the ON position (engine off). The tool should power on automatically.
Operating Instructions
1. Device Navigation
The Innova 5100 features a directional keypad and dedicated function buttons for navigation. Use the arrow keys to scroll through menus and options. The ENTER button (center button with arrow) confirms selections. The M button typically accesses the main menu, and the S button may be used for system status or special functions.
2. Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
- From the main menu, select the "Read Codes" or "DTC" option. The DTC/FF button may provide quick access.
- The tool will scan the vehicle's systems for stored codes.
- View the displayed codes and their descriptions.
- To clear codes, navigate to the "Erase Codes" option. Note: Clearing codes will turn off the Check Engine Light but will not fix the underlying problem. Address the issue before clearing codes.
3. Performing Network Scans
The network scan feature checks for DTCs across all available vehicle modules. Select "Network Scan" from the menu to initiate this process. The tool will display a summary of codes found in various modules.
4. Live Data Viewing
The Innova 5100 can display real-time sensor data from the vehicle. Select "Live Data" or press the LD button. You can view parameters such as Engine RPM, vehicle speed, oxygen sensor readings, and more. The tool allows for recording and playback of this data for further analysis.
5. Special Functions
- Battery Initialization: Follow on-screen prompts to perform battery initialization after replacing a vehicle battery, if required by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Oil & Battery Light Reset: Use this function to reset the oil service light or battery warning light after performing maintenance.
- ABS/SRS Diagnostics: Access dedicated menus for Anti-lock Braking System and Supplemental Restraint System diagnostics to retrieve specific codes and view live data related to these systems.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
Wipe the tool's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no moisture enters the device's ports or screen.
2. Storage
Store the Innova 5100 in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. If storing for extended periods, remove the AA batteries to prevent leakage.
3. Software Updates
Periodically check the Innova website (innova.com) for available software updates. Updates can improve functionality, add new vehicle coverage, and fix bugs. Follow the instructions provided on the website for updating your device.
Troubleshooting
- Device Not Powering On:
- Ensure the OBD-II cable is securely connected to the vehicle's DLC and the vehicle's ignition is ON.
- Check the AA batteries for proper installation and charge level. Replace if necessary.
- Verify the vehicle's OBD-II port is functional (e.g., by testing with another known-good device).
- Communication Error:
- Confirm the vehicle is OBD-II compliant (most vehicles 1996 and newer).
- Ensure the ignition is ON and the engine is OFF.
- Check for bent pins in the OBD-II connector on both the tool and the vehicle.
- Try connecting to a different OBD-II compliant vehicle to rule out a vehicle-specific issue.
- Incorrect Readings/Data:
- Ensure the correct vehicle information (if prompted) is entered into the tool.
- Verify the vehicle's engine is at operating temperature for accurate sensor readings.
- Consider performing a software update if available.
