Battery Replacement
As noted in the Setup section, the Surface Pen uses a single AAAA battery. When the pen's functionality diminishes or it stops responding, it's likely time to replace the battery. Follow the battery installation steps outlined previously.
Pen Tip Replacement
Over time, the pen tip may wear down, especially with heavy use. Replacement tips are available (often sold as a "Pen Tip Kit"). To replace the tip:
- Gently pull the existing tip straight out from the pen.
- Insert the new tip firmly into the pen until it is seated securely.
Avoid applying excessive force when removing or inserting tips to prevent damage to the pen.
Troubleshooting
- Pen not pairing: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your Surface device. Check the battery level of the pen and replace if necessary. Try restarting both the pen (by removing and reinserting the battery) and your Surface device.
- Inconsistent writing/drawing: This could be due to a low battery or a worn-out pen tip. Replace the battery or the pen tip as needed. Ensure your Surface screen is clean.
- Buttons not responding: Verify the pen is properly paired. Check the battery. If issues persist, try re-pairing the pen.
- Pen not recognized by apps: Ensure the app you are using supports pen input. Check for any app-specific settings that might need to be enabled for pen functionality.
