Huawei F656-21 3G GSM Link User Manual

Fixed Telephone Terminal - Analog Telephone Adapter with SIM Card

Product Overview

The Huawei F656-21 is a fixed wireless terminal (FWT) designed to provide a gateway between a GSM/3G mobile network and a standard analog telephone. It allows users to make and receive calls using a regular landline phone connected to the device, leveraging a mobile SIM card. This device is ideal for eliminating traditional fixed telephone lines or for extending mobile network coverage to areas with weak signals, such as basements or elevators, by utilizing an external antenna.

It supports GSM 900/1800MHz and 3G/UMTS 900/2100MHz frequencies and is compatible with SIM cards from all mobile operators. The integrated 1500 mAh backup battery ensures continued operation during power outages.

Setup Guide

  1. Insert SIM Card: Locate the SIM card slot on the device. Carefully insert your activated SIM card, ensuring the correct orientation. If your SIM card has a PIN, it must be deactivated before insertion for the device to function correctly.
  2. Connect Antenna: Screw the provided 2G/3G antenna into the SMA connector on the back of the device. Ensure it is securely fastened. For improved signal reception in low-coverage areas, consider connecting a compatible external antenna.
  3. Connect Analog Phone: Use a standard RJ11 telephone cable to connect your analog fixed or cordless phone (or PBX system) to one of the two RJ11 ports (C1 or C2) on the back of the F656-21.
  4. Power On: Connect the power adapter to the device's power input and then plug it into a wall outlet. Press the power button to turn on the device.
  5. Wait for Network Registration: The device will attempt to register with the mobile network. Observe the status indicators (refer to the Operating section for indicator meanings). Once registered, you should hear a dial tone on the connected analog phone.

Operating Instructions

Making Calls

  • Pick up the handset of the connected analog phone.
  • Wait for the dial tone.
  • Dial the desired phone number.
  • The call will be routed through the GSM/3G network via the inserted SIM card.

Receiving Calls

  • When an incoming call is received, the connected analog phone will ring.
  • Pick up the handset to answer the call.
  • Note: Incoming call number display (Caller ID) is only supported on analog phones with dual ID decoding capabilities (e.g., Doro Comfort 1010).

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Battery Care: The integrated 1500 mAh battery provides backup power. For optimal battery life, avoid extreme temperatures and prolonged periods of full discharge or full charge.
  • Antenna Placement: Ensure the antenna is positioned vertically and away from obstructions for best signal reception. If using an external antenna, place it in an area with optimal signal strength.
  • Firmware Updates: Huawei may release firmware updates. Check the official Huawei support website for any available updates and follow their instructions carefully.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
No dial tone / Cannot make calls.
  • Ensure SIM card is correctly inserted and PIN is deactivated.
  • Check network signal strength (Signal indicator). Move device or external antenna to a better reception area if signal is weak.
  • Verify the analog phone is properly connected to an RJ11 port.
  • Restart the F656-21 device.
  • Confirm SIM card is active and has sufficient balance/plan.
Cannot receive calls.
  • Check network registration (Network indicator).
  • Ensure the connected analog phone is functioning correctly.
  • Verify that call forwarding or other network services are not interfering.
Poor call quality / Dropped calls.
  • Weak signal strength. Relocate the device or external antenna.
  • Interference from other electronic devices.
  • Network congestion in your area.
Caller ID not displayed.
  • The connected analog phone may not support dual ID decoding. This is a limitation of the analog phone, not the F656-21.
