4. Placement and Installation

Proper placement is crucial for effective leak detection. The sensor should be placed directly on the ground in areas prone to water leaks.

  • Recommended Locations: Near water heaters, under sinks, next to washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators with ice makers, toilets, and in basements.
  • Surface Type: Place the sensor on any non-conductive surface such as granite, glass, brick, or tile. The conductors on the underside of the sensor must make direct contact with any pooling water.

5. Operation

Once installed and paired, the Centralite Water Sensor continuously monitors for the presence of water. When water is detected, the sensor will send an alert to your connected smart home hub, which can then trigger notifications on your smartphone or other configured actions.

  • Detection: The sensor uses capacitance detection to identify water on its contact points. It can detect as little as 0.5 ounces of water.
  • Notifications: Configure alerts through your smart home hub's application to receive immediate notifications when a leak is detected.
  • Compatibility: The sensor is fully Zigbee HA 1.2 certified, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of smart home ecosystems including SmartThings, Hubitat, Ezlo, Vera, and Alexa.

Battery Replacement

The Centralite Water Sensor uses one CR2 Lithium battery, which provides up to 2 years of life under normal usage conditions. When the battery level is low, your smart home hub will typically send a notification.

  1. Gently open the sensor casing to access the battery compartment.
  2. Remove the old CR2 battery.
  3. Insert a new CR2 Lithium battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Close the sensor casing securely.

Cleaning

Wipe the sensor's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or immerse the device in water.
