Setup and Installation
Proper installation is critical for child safety.
1. Selecting the Correct Stage
The Fit2 Base offers two stages:
- Stage 1 (Infant Position): For newborns and smaller infants (birth to approximately 12 months). Provides a more reclined seating angle.
- Stage 2 (Toddler Position): For growing toddlers (approximately 9 to 24 months). Offers a more upright and spacious seating position.
To switch between stages, locate the orange stage-position lever on the base. Lift the lever to convert the base from Stage 1 to Stage 2, or vice versa.

2. Leveling the Base
Achieve the correct recline angle using the ReclineSure leveling foot.
- Place the car seat base on the vehicle seat.
- Adjust the ReclineSure leveling foot until the RideRight bubble level-indicators show the bubble is centered within the green lines.

3. Securing the Base (LATCH System)
The LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system provides a secure installation method.
- Locate the lower anchors in your vehicle's seat.
- Attach the LATCH connectors from the car seat base to the vehicle's lower anchors. Ensure both connectors are securely latched.
- Press down firmly on the car seat base while pulling the SuperCinch tightener strap to remove slack and achieve a tight fit.
- Verify the installation by attempting to move the base side-to-side and front-to-back at the belt path. It should not move more than one inch.

4. Securing the Base (Vehicle Seat Belt)
If your vehicle does not have LATCH anchors, or if you prefer, you can install the base using the vehicle's seat belt.
- Route the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt through the designated belt path on the car seat base.
- Buckle the seat belt.
- Engage the integrated lock-offs on the base to secure the seat belt tightly.
- Press down firmly on the car seat base while pulling the shoulder belt to remove slack.
- Verify the installation by attempting to move the base side-to-side and front-to-back at the belt path. It should not move more than one inch.
Operating the Car Seat Base
Once the base is securely installed, the Chicco Fit2 Car Seat can be easily attached and removed.
- Align the Chicco Fit2 Car Seat with the base.
- Lower the car seat onto the base until you hear an audible "click," indicating it is securely latched.
- Gently pull up on the car seat to ensure it is firmly attached to the base.
- To remove the car seat, locate the release handle on the car seat and lift it while simultaneously lifting the car seat from the base.
Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and safety of your car seat base.
- Cleaning: The car seat base can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the base for any signs of damage, wear, or missing parts. Check the LATCH connectors, seat belt path, and leveling mechanisms.
- Storage: Store the car seat base in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
- Vehicle Seat Protection: The smooth underside of the base is designed to protect your vehicle's upholstery. Consider using a car seat protector mat for additional protection.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Chicco Fit2 Car Seat Base, consider the following:
- Base is not tight enough: Re-read the installation instructions for LATCH or seat belt installation. Ensure all slack is removed and the SuperCinch tightener (for LATCH) or lock-offs (for seat belt) are properly engaged. The base should not move more than one inch at the belt path.
- Bubble level is not centered: Adjust the ReclineSure leveling foot until the bubble is within the green lines. Ensure the vehicle seat is flat and free of obstructions.
