1. Introduction
The Leifheit LinoProtect 400 is a high-quality rotary dryer designed for outdoor laundry drying. It features an integrated umbrella-style cover that protects laundry from rain and harmful UV rays, ensuring clothes remain dry and color-fast. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your LinoProtect 400 rotary dryer.
Key features include a 40-meter line length, a robust aluminum construction for rust resistance, a patented lift-off lock for stability, and a pull-cord mechanism for easy opening and closing. The design allows the canopy to close like an umbrella, protecting the lines from dirt when not in use.
2. Safety Information
- Ensure the rotary dryer is installed securely according to the instructions to prevent tipping, especially in windy conditions.
- Keep children and pets away from the rotary dryer during operation and installation.
- Do not overload the lines. Distribute laundry evenly to maintain balance and prevent damage.
- Regularly inspect the lines and frame for any signs of wear or damage. Do not use if damaged.
- When closing the dryer, ensure hands and fingers are clear of moving parts to avoid pinching.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:
- Leifheit LinoProtect 400 Rotary Dryer unit
- Ground socket sleeve for installation
- Instruction Manual (this document)
4. Setup and Installation
Proper installation of the ground socket is crucial for the stability and longevity of your rotary dryer. The ground socket sleeve requires cementing into place for maximum hold and security.
- Choose Location: Select a clear, level area in your garden or yard, free from overhead obstructions like trees or power lines. Ensure sufficient space for the dryer to fully open (diagonal span of 2.94 m).
- Prepare Hole: Dig a hole suitable for the ground socket sleeve. The depth and width should allow for the sleeve to be securely embedded in concrete, with the top flush with the ground level.
- Install Ground Socket: Place the ground socket sleeve into the prepared hole. Use concrete to firmly secure the sleeve in place. Ensure the sleeve is perfectly vertical and the top edge is level with the ground. Allow the concrete to cure completely as per concrete manufacturer's instructions before proceeding.
- Insert Rotary Dryer: Once the concrete is fully cured, insert the main pole of the LinoProtect 400 rotary dryer into the ground socket. Ensure it is seated firmly.

5. Operating Instructions
- Opening the Dryer: Grasp the pull-cord mechanism located on the main pole (refer to Figure 4.1). Pull the cord downwards firmly. The arms will extend outwards, and the lines will tension and lock into place.
- Hanging Laundry: Distribute your laundry evenly across the 40 meters of line. The dryer also includes 2 hanger hooks at the end of each arm for additional hanging options.
- Rain and UV Protection: The integrated umbrella-style canopy provides protection for your laundry from sudden rain showers and harmful UV rays, preventing fading.

6. Maintenance and Care
- Closing and Storage: When not in use, pull the cord again to release the lock, and the arms will fold inwards. The canopy will close like an umbrella, protecting the washing lines from rain and dust, keeping them clean for the next use.
- Cleaning: Wipe the aluminum frame with a damp cloth. The lines can be cleaned with a mild detergent solution and a soft brush if necessary. Ensure all parts are dry before closing for storage.
- Seasonal Storage: For extended periods of non-use, especially during winter months or severe weather, it is recommended to remove the dryer from its ground socket and store it indoors to prolong its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting
- Dryer unstable/wobbles: Ensure the ground socket is cemented securely and the main pole is fully inserted. Check for any loose connections.
- Lines sag: The pull-cord mechanism should tension the lines automatically when fully opened. If lines remain saggy, check if the arms are fully locked into position. Overloading can also cause sagging.
- Difficulty opening/closing: Ensure no obstructions are present. Check the pull-cord mechanism for any tangles or damage. Applying a silicone-based lubricant to moving parts may help.
