2. Safety Information

3. Setup and Installation

This section guides you through the initial setup of your projector.

3.1 Package Contents

3.2 Projector Placement

The projector can be placed on a table, mounted on the ceiling, or used for front projection. Consider the throw ratio (1.24 to 2.1:1) and up to 1.7x zoom for optimal image size and distance.

3.3 Connecting Devices

Connect your source devices to the appropriate input ports on the rear of the projector.

  • HDMI: Use HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 for digital video and audio sources.
  • HDBaseT: For long-distance transmission of uncompressed HD video, audio, and control signals over a single LAN cable.
  • VGA (Computer IN): Connect a computer using the supplied RGB cable.
  • Composite Video (Video IN): Connect older video devices using an RCA cable.
  • Audio IN: Separate 1/8" audio inputs are available for VGA and Composite Video sources.
  • USB: For service or firmware updates.
  • LAN (Ethernet): For network control and monitoring.

4. Operating the Projector

4.1 Power On/Off

  • Power On: Press the POWER button on the control panel or remote control. The power indicator will illuminate.
  • Power Off: Press the POWER button again. A confirmation message may appear. Press it a second time to confirm shutdown.

4.2 Input Source Selection

Press the SOURCE button on the control panel or remote control to cycle through available input sources (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDBaseT, Computer IN, Video IN).

4.3 Image Adjustment

  • Focus: Rotate the focus ring on the lens until the image is sharp.
  • Zoom: Adjust the zoom ring on the lens to change the image size.
  • Keystone Correction: Use the menu options to correct trapezoidal distortion if the projector is not perfectly perpendicular to the screen.

4.4 3D Ready Feature

The projector supports 3D content. To view 3D content, compatible 3D glasses and a 3D-enabled source device are required. Refer to the on-screen menu for 3D settings and synchronization options.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your projector.

  • Cleaning the Lens: Gently wipe the lens with a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • Cleaning the Cabinet: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the projector's exterior. For stubborn dirt, dampen the cloth with a mild detergent solution and wipe dry.
  • Ventilation: Periodically check and clean the ventilation grilles to prevent dust buildup, which can impede airflow and cause overheating.
  • Laser Light Source: The NEC P502HL-2 uses a laser light source, which offers a significantly longer lifespan compared to traditional lamps and requires no replacement.
