The Rapture XRay LTE is a high-performance baitcasting reel engineered for anglers seeking precision and durability. It features a robust construction suitable for various fishing techniques, offering smooth operation and reliable drag performance.
Setup
1. Attaching the Reel to the Rod
- Align the reel foot with the reel seat on your fishing rod.
- Tighten the reel seat nut securely until the reel is firmly attached and does not wobble. Do not overtighten.
2. Spooling the Line
- Pass the fishing line through the line guide on the reel.
- Tie an arbor knot or a similar secure knot to the spool. Ensure the knot is tight and the line is properly seated.
- Begin winding the line onto the spool, maintaining light tension to ensure even and tight wraps. Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the rim. Overfilling can lead to tangles and casting issues.
Operating Instructions
1. Adjusting the Brake System (Casting Control)
The XRay LTE features an adjustable brake system to prevent backlashes during casting.
- Centrifugal Brake: Adjust the number of active brake weights based on lure weight and wind conditions. More weights provide more braking.
- Magnetic Brake: Use the external dial to fine-tune the magnetic braking force. Higher numbers increase braking.
2. Adjusting the Spool Tension Knob
The spool tension knob controls the free fall of the lure.
- Attach your lure to the line.
- Tighten the spool tension knob until the lure holds its position.
- Gradually loosen the knob until the lure slowly falls to the ground when the thumb bar is pressed. This is your starting point for optimal casting.
3. Adjusting the Drag System
The star drag system controls the amount of resistance the line experiences when a fish pulls on it.
- Turn the star-shaped drag knob clockwise to increase drag tension.
- Turn it counter-clockwise to decrease drag tension.
- Set the drag to approximately 25-30% of your line's breaking strength.
4. Casting
- Press the thumb bar to disengage the spool.
- Use your thumb to lightly feather the spool to prevent backlashes during the cast.
- Release your thumb as you cast forward.
- Apply thumb pressure again as the lure approaches the target to stop the spool and prevent overruns.
5. Retrieval
Turn the handle clockwise to retrieve the line. The reel will automatically re-engage the spool.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance will extend the life and performance of your Rapture XRay LTE reel.
- After Each Use:
- Rinse the reel with fresh water, especially after saltwater use. Do not submerge the reel.
- Wipe down the reel with a soft, dry cloth.
- Loosen the drag completely to prevent compression of the drag washers during storage.
- Periodic Maintenance (Every 3-6 months or after heavy use):
- Apply a small amount of high-quality reel oil to moving parts such as the handle shaft, line guide, and spool bearings.
- Apply a thin layer of reel grease to gears and drag washers (if accessible and recommended by manufacturer).
- Inspect the line guide for any nicks or wear that could damage your fishing line.
- Check all screws for tightness.
- Storage: Store the reel in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
