Familiarize yourself with the various components of your Retevis RT24 radio:

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio.
  2. Slide the battery pack upwards until it clicks securely into place.
  3. Ensure the battery is firmly attached to prevent accidental disconnection.

4.2 Charging the Battery

Before initial use, fully charge the battery pack. The 1100mAh Lithium-ion battery provides approximately 74 hours of standby time and 8-12 hours of normal use.

  1. Insert the radio with the battery attached into the charging base.
  2. Connect the charging base to a standard EU 3-pin power outlet using the provided adapter.
  3. The indicator light on the radio or charging base will typically show red during charging and turn green when fully charged.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

  • To power on the radio, rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise until you hear a click.
  • Continue rotating clockwise to increase the volume.
  • To decrease volume, rotate counter-clockwise.
  • To power off, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until you hear a click.

5.2 Channel Selection

  • Rotate the Channel Selection knob to choose one of the 16 available channels.
  • Ensure all radios intended for communication are set to the same channel.

5.3 Transmitting and Receiving (PTT)

  • To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button located on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  • Release the PTT button to stop transmitting and listen for a response.
  • The indicator light will typically glow red when transmitting and green when receiving.

5.4 Privacy Codes (CTCSS/DCS)

The Retevis RT24 supports 50 CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and 105 DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes. These codes help filter out unwanted conversations on the same channel, ensuring more private communication.

  • To communicate using privacy codes, all radios must be set to the same channel and the same CTCSS/DCS code.
  • Refer to the programming software (requires a programming cable, sold separately) for detailed instructions on setting CTCSS/DCS codes.

5.5 VOX Function (Voice Operated Exchange)

The VOX function allows for hands-free operation, enabling transmission when your voice is detected, without needing to press the PTT button.

  • The VOX function can be enabled and adjusted via programming software.
  • Adjust the VOX sensitivity level to prevent accidental transmissions from background noise.

6. Maintenance
