Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, use, and maintenance of Traxxas 8347 4mm Flanged Nylon Locking Serrated Nuts. These nuts are designed for secure fastening in various Traxxas RC vehicle applications, including the 4-Tec 2.0 AWD, VXL AWD Chassis, TRX-4, and TRX-6 models. Please read these instructions thoroughly before use to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your components.
Product Overview
The Traxxas 8347 nuts are 4mm flanged nylon locking serrated nuts. They are black in color and feature a serrated flange for enhanced grip and a nylon insert for locking capabilities, preventing loosening due to vibrations. This package includes ten (10) nuts.

Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the performance and safety of your RC vehicle. Ensure you have the correct tools before beginning.
Required Tools:
- 4mm nut driver or wrench
- Appropriate RC vehicle manual (for specific component removal/installation)
Installation Steps:
- Identify Fastening Point: Locate the component requiring a 4mm flanged nylon locking nut. Common applications include wheel axles, suspension links, and other areas subject to vibration.
- Prepare Component: Ensure the threaded shaft or bolt is clean and free of debris or damaged threads.
- Position Nut: Place the Traxxas 8347 nut onto the threaded shaft. Ensure the flanged side faces the component you are securing. The serrations on the flange are designed to grip the surface.
- Tighten Nut: Using a 4mm nut driver or wrench, carefully thread the nut onto the shaft. Tighten until the nylon locking insert engages and resistance is felt. Continue tightening until the nut is snug and the component is securely fastened, but avoid overtightening. Overtightening can strip threads or damage the nylon insert, reducing its locking effectiveness.
- Verify Security: After tightening, gently attempt to move the secured component to confirm it is firmly in place and the nut is not loose.
Note: The nylon locking feature provides resistance against loosening. Repeated removal and reinstallation of the nut may reduce the effectiveness of the nylon insert. If a nut feels loose after reinstallation, it is recommended to replace it.
Maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance will prolong the life of your Traxxas 8347 nuts and ensure the reliability of your RC vehicle.
- Pre-Run Inspection: Before each use of your RC vehicle, visually inspect all nuts for tightness. Hand-tighten any nuts that feel loose.
- Post-Run Inspection: After each use, check for any nuts that may have loosened due to vibrations or impacts during operation.
- Replacement: If a nut consistently loosens, or if the nylon insert appears damaged or worn, replace the nut with a new Traxxas 8347 nut. The black finish may chip with repeated removal and installation; this is cosmetic and does not affect performance unless the nut itself is damaged.
- Cleaning: Keep nuts free from dirt, mud, and other debris. A soft brush can be used for cleaning.
Troubleshooting
Nut Loosens Repeatedly:
- Cause: Worn nylon locking insert, stripped threads on the nut or shaft, or insufficient tightening.
- Solution: Replace the nut. Inspect the threaded shaft for damage; replace if necessary. Ensure proper tightening during installation.
Difficulty Threading Nut:
- Cause: Cross-threading, damaged threads on the nut or shaft, or incorrect nut size.
- Solution: Ensure the nut is aligned correctly before threading. Do not force the nut. If resistance is met immediately, unthread and re-attempt. Inspect threads for damage. Verify that you are using a 4mm nut on a compatible 4mm threaded shaft.
