2. What's in the Box

3. Setup

3.1 Connecting Your Console

  1. Place the Console: Position your PS4 Slim horizontally or vertically in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Ensure there is adequate space around the console for airflow.
  2. Connect HDMI Cable: Insert one end of the supplied HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port on the back of your PS4 Slim and the other end into an HDMI input on your TV or display.
  3. Connect Power Cable: Plug the power cable into the AC IN port on the back of your PS4 Slim, then plug the other end into a wall outlet.
  4. Connect DUALSHOCK 4 Controller: Use the supplied USB cable to connect your DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller to a USB port on the front of your PS4 Slim. This will pair the controller and charge it.

3.2 Initial System Setup

  1. Power On: Press the power button on the front of the PS4 Slim. The indicator light will turn blue, then white.
  2. Follow On-Screen Instructions: Your TV will display the PS4 setup screen. Follow the prompts to:
    • Select your language.
    • Adjust display area.
    • Connect to the Internet (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
    • Set date and time.
    • Create or log in to a PlayStation Network (PSN) account.
  3. Controller Charging: To charge your controller when the console is in rest mode, ensure the "Supply Power to USB Ports" option is enabled in (Settings) > [Power Saving Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Rest Mode].

4. Operating Your Console

  • To Power Off: From the function screen, select (Power) > [Turn Off PS4]. Alternatively, press and hold the power button on the console for at least 7 seconds until the system beeps twice.
  • Rest Mode: To enter rest mode, select (Power) > [Enter Rest Mode]. The power indicator will turn orange.

4.2 DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller

The DUALSHOCK 4 controller is your primary interface for interacting with the PS4. It features precise controls, a touch pad, light bar, and built-in speaker.

  • PS Button: Turns on the console, opens the Quick Menu, or returns to the home screen.

4.3 Playing Games and Media

6. Troubleshooting
