4. Setup
4.1 Charging the Battery
Before first use, fully charge the Beoplay E4 earphones. Connect the supplied USB to Micro USB cable to the charging port on the control unit and plug the other end into a USB power source. A full charge provides up to 20 hours of Active Noise Cancellation.
4.2 Selecting and Fitting Ear Tips
Proper fit of the ear tips is crucial for optimal sound quality and effective noise cancellation. The Beoplay E4 comes with various sizes of silicone ear tips (XS, S, M, L) and Comply memory foam ear tips. Experiment with different sizes to find the most comfortable and secure fit that creates a good seal in your ear canal.
- Gently insert the earbud into your ear.
- Twist slightly to ensure a snug fit.
- Test different ear tip sizes until external sounds are noticeably reduced even before activating ANC.
4.3 Connecting to Your Device
Plug the 3.5mm audio jack from the Beoplay E4 control unit into the headphone port of your audio device (e.g., smartphone, tablet, laptop, MP3 player).
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On/Off and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
The control unit features a slider switch to manage power and ANC functions.
- Off: Slide the switch to the lowest position to power off the unit.
- On (ANC Active): Slide the switch to the middle position. A white LED will illuminate, indicating that the earphones are powered on and Active Noise Cancellation is engaged.
- Transparency Mode: Slide the switch to the highest position. This temporarily deactivates ANC and allows ambient sounds to pass through, enabling you to hear your surroundings without removing the earphones.
5.2 Media Control
The inline remote provides convenient control over your audio and calls:
- Volume Up/Down: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the playback volume.
- Play/Pause: Press the center button once to play or pause audio.
- Next Track: Press the center button twice quickly to skip to the next track.
- Previous Track: Press the center button three times quickly to go to the previous track.
- Answer/End Call: Press the center button once to answer an incoming call or end an active call.
- Reject Call: Press and hold the center button to reject an incoming call.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain the performance and longevity of your earphones.
- Gently wipe the earbuds and cables with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
- Remove ear tips and clean them separately with mild soap and water if necessary. Ensure they are completely dry before reattaching.
- Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
6.2 Storage
When not in use, store the Beoplay E4 earphones in the provided carrying pouch to protect them from dust, dirt, and physical damage.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Beoplay E4 earphones, refer to the following common solutions:
- No Sound: Ensure the 3.5mm jack is fully inserted into your device. Check the volume level on both your device and using the inline remote. Verify the earphones are powered on.
- Ineffective Noise Cancellation: Ensure the ANC function is activated (white LED on control unit). Check that the ear tips are correctly sized and properly seated in your ear canal to create a good seal. A poor fit can significantly reduce ANC performance.
- Cable Noise: If you experience noise from the cable rubbing against clothing, ensure the ANC is active. The ANC system is designed to mitigate such mechanical noises.
- Earphones Not Charging: Verify the USB cable is securely connected to both the control unit and the power source. Try a different USB port or charger.
