Introduction and Safety Information
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, setup, and maintenance of your GREENCUT GS680X petrol chainsaw. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the chainsaw to ensure your safety and prolong the life of the tool. Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.
General Safety Warnings
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including a helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and safety boots when operating the chainsaw.
- Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders, children, and pets. Maintain a safe distance of at least 10 meters (33 feet).
- Do not operate the chainsaw when you are tired, under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
- Inspect the chainsaw before each use for any damaged parts, loose fasteners, or fuel leaks. Do not operate a damaged chainsaw.
- Handle fuel with extreme care. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Avoid smoking or open flames near fuel.
- Be aware of kickback. Kickback can occur when the moving chain at the nose of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
- Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands.
- The safety lock prevents accidental start-up, protecting the user from injury. This essential feature ensures total control over the tool at all times.

Setup and Assembly
Before operating your chainsaw, proper assembly and preparation are crucial for safety and performance.
1. Unpacking and Inspection
- Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Verify that all parts listed in the manual are present and undamaged.
- Familiarize yourself with the chainsaw's components: engine unit, guide bar, saw chain, chain cover, and tools.
2. Guide Bar and Chain Installation
- Ensure the engine is off and the spark plug cap is disconnected.
- Remove the chain cover by loosening the two nuts.
- Place the chain around the sprocket and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges face forward in the direction of rotation.
- Mount the guide bar onto the studs, aligning the chain tensioner pin with the hole in the guide bar.
- Replace the chain cover and hand-tighten the nuts. Do not fully tighten yet.
3. Chain Tension Adjustment
Proper chain tension is vital for safe and efficient operation. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled around by hand.
- Using the side chain tensioner, adjust the chain tension. Turn the screw clockwise to tighten and counter-clockwise to loosen.
- Lift the tip of the guide bar slightly while tightening the nuts to ensure proper tension.
- Once tension is correct, fully tighten the two nuts on the chain cover.
- Check the tension again after tightening the nuts.

4. Fuel and Chain Oil Filling
- The GS680X uses a mixture of unleaded petrol and 2-stroke engine oil. Refer to the engine oil manufacturer's instructions for the correct mixing ratio (typically 25:1 or 40:1, depending on oil type).
- Fill the fuel tank with the prepared fuel mixture.
- Fill the chain oil tank with high-quality chain lubricant. Do not use waste oil.
- Ensure both caps are securely tightened to prevent leaks.
Operating Instructions
Starting the Chainsaw (Easy-Start System)
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake by pushing the front hand guard forward.
- Set the ON/OFF switch to the "ON" position.
- Pull out the choke knob (for cold start).
- Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Pull the starter cord firmly and steadily until the engine fires (usually a few pulls).
- Once the engine fires, push the choke knob back in.
- Pull the starter cord again until the engine starts and runs smoothly.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few moments before disengaging the chain brake and beginning work.
Cutting Techniques
Always plan your cut before starting. Be aware of the direction the wood will fall and clear your escape path.
- Felling: For felling trees, make a directional notch on the side the tree is intended to fall, then make the felling cut from the opposite side, slightly above the notch.
- Limbing: Remove branches from a fallen tree. Work from the base of the tree towards the top, cutting smaller branches first. Be careful of branches under tension.
- Bucking: Cutting a fallen log into sections. Support the log to prevent pinching the chain. Cut from the top down if the log is supported at both ends, or from the bottom up (undercut) if supported at one end.
Image: A person operating the GREENCUT GS680X chainsaw to cut a large log. This chainsaw is ideal for cutting medium and large branches, as well as felling and pruning medium-sized trees, thanks to its 22-inch blade and powerful 68cc engine. The image also indicates 86 teeth on the chain and a maximum recommended diameter of 55-95cm for cutting.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and safe operation of your GREENCUT GS680X chainsaw.

Daily Maintenance (Before Each Use)
- Check chain tension.
- Inspect the chain for sharpness and damage. Sharpen or replace as needed.
- Check chain oil level and fuel level.
- Clean the air filter.
- Inspect the guide bar for wear and burrs.
- Ensure all nuts and bolts are tight.
Weekly Maintenance
- Clean the spark plug and check the electrode gap. Replace if worn.
- Clean the cooling fins on the engine.
- Clean the chain brake mechanism.
- Rotate the guide bar to ensure even wear.
Chain Sharpening
A sharp chain is crucial for safe and efficient cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly using a round file of the correct diameter (refer to chain specifications) and a flat file for depth gauges. If unsure, have it professionally sharpened.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine does not start | No fuel, incorrect choke setting, fouled spark plug, clogged fuel filter. | Check fuel level and mixture, adjust choke, clean/replace spark plug, clean/replace fuel filter. |
| Engine starts but stalls | Incorrect fuel mixture, dirty air filter, carburetor issues. | Verify fuel mixture, clean air filter, adjust carburetor (professional service recommended). |
| Chainsaw cuts poorly or slowly | Dull chain, incorrect chain tension, worn guide bar. | Sharpen or replace chain, adjust chain tension, replace guide bar. |
| Excessive vibration | Loose components, damaged anti-vibration mounts, bent guide bar. | Check and tighten all fasteners, inspect anti-vibration system, replace damaged parts. |
| Chain oil not flowing | Empty oil tank, clogged oil port, faulty oil pump. | Refill oil tank, clean oil port, inspect/replace oil pump (professional service recommended). |
