2. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of your Quietcool Smart Attic Fan. The fan is designed for plug-and-play operation, requiring no complex wiring.
2.1 Pre-Installation Tips
- Vent Size: Ensure your gable vent opening is large enough to accommodate the fan. The fan is approximately 17 inches in diameter. If the existing vent is too small, it may need to be enlarged for optimal airflow.
- Power Outlet: Confirm a standard 120V AC power outlet is available near the installation location. The fan comes with a 20ft power cord.
- Fan Orientation: Typically, install the fan on the sunny side of the house to effectively expel hot air. The shady side will then draw in cooler air. However, consider noise levels if the fan is near outdoor living spaces.
- App Pairing: It is highly recommended to pair the fan with your smartphone app before final installation in the attic. Plug the fan into an outlet in an accessible location (e.g., garage) to complete the pairing process. This avoids potential connectivity issues in the attic.
2.2 Mounting the Fan
The fan features built-in mounting tabs with anti-vibration pads for secure and quiet operation.
- Position the fan against the inside of the gable vent opening, ensuring the fan blades face outwards to exhaust air.
- Align the mounting tabs with the wooden framing around the gable vent.
- Secure the fan using appropriate screws (not included, typically wood screws) through the pre-drilled holes in the mounting tabs. Ensure the fan is firmly attached to prevent vibration.

2.3 Installing Vent Covers (Optional)
The fan includes four vent covers to seal any gaps around the fan housing, optimizing airflow.
- Match each vent cover to one of the sides around the attic fan housing.
- Use the provided wood screws to attach each corner of the vent cover to the wood framing around your gable vent.
- Repeat for the remaining three vent covers.
2.4 Mounting the Smart Control Hub
The Smart Control Hub manages the fan's operation and connects to the app.
- Mount the Smart Control Hub to the boards that frame the attic gable vent using screws.
- Connect the fan's power cable to the control hub.
- Plug the fan's power cord into a nearby 120V AC outlet.

3. Operating Instructions
The Quietcool AFG SMT ES-3.0 Smart Attic Fan is controlled via a smartphone application, allowing for automated and customized operation.
3.1 Smart App Control
- Download the Quietcool Smart App from your device's app store.
- Follow the in-app instructions to pair your fan with your smartphone. If re-pairing is needed, hold down the pair button on the control hub for 3 seconds.
- The app displays current conditions including fan status (on/off), temperature, and humidity in your attic.
- Smart Mode: Activate Smart Mode to allow the fan to automatically adjust its speed based on preset temperature and humidity conditions. You can customize these presets (e.g., Summer, Winter) to suit your climate zone and preferences.
- Timer Mode: Use Timer Mode for manual operation for a set duration.
- Speed Control: The fan features three speeds (low, medium, high) which can be set manually or automatically via Smart Mode.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your attic fan.
- Annual Inspection: Annually inspect the fan for any debris, dust, or obstructions that may have accumulated on the fan blades or grille.
- Cleaning: Carefully clean the fan blades and grille using a soft cloth or brush. Ensure the power is disconnected before cleaning.
- Mounting Check: Verify that all mounting screws are secure and the fan remains firmly attached to the framing.
- Ventilation Path: Ensure that the gable vent and any other attic ventilation points are clear of obstructions (e.g., bird nests, insulation).
5. Troubleshooting
- Fan Not Turning On:
- Check if the fan is properly plugged into a working outlet.
- Verify that the Smart Mode or Timer Mode is active in the app and the settings are met (e.g., temperature threshold).
- Ensure there hasn't been a power interruption. After a power outage, the fan may not automatically resume and might need to be manually reactivated via the app.
- App Connectivity Issues:
- Ensure your smartphone's Bluetooth is enabled and you are within range of the fan's control hub.
- Try re-pairing the device by holding the pair button on the control hub for 3 seconds.
- Update the app to the latest version.
- Excessive Noise/Vibration:
- Check all mounting screws to ensure the fan is securely fastened.
- Inspect fan blades for any debris or damage that might cause imbalance.
- Ensure the anti-vibration pads on the mounting tabs are intact.
