The RYOBI DS1200 features a convenient locking ON/OFF switch. To turn the sander ON, simply slide the switch to the 'I' position. To turn it OFF, slide the switch to the 'O' position. 5.2 Sanding Technique
Hold the sander firmly with both hands if necessary, utilizing the rubberized hex-texture overmold for enhanced grip and control. Apply light, even pressure to the workpiece. The triangular head is specifically designed to access tight spots, such as corners of stairs or inside cabinetry, where larger sanders cannot reach. Move the sander smoothly across the surface, allowing the tool to do the work.

6. Maintenance
6.1 Changing Sanding Pads
When a sanding pad becomes worn or you need to change grit, simply peel off the old pad and replace it with a new peel-and-stick pad, following the instructions in Section 4.1. Always ensure the tool is unplugged before changing pads.
6.2 Cleaning
Regularly clean the sander to remove dust and debris. The ON/OFF switch is dust-protected, but it is still important to keep the tool's ventilation openings clear to prevent overheating. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean the exterior and vents. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your RYOBI DS1200 Detail Sander, consider the following common solutions:
- Sander not turning on: Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a functional outlet and the ON/OFF switch is in the 'ON' position. Check for tripped circuit breakers.
- Sanding pads not sticking: Ensure the sanding base is clean and free of dust or debris before applying a new pad. The pads are designed for peel-and-stick application.
- Poor sanding performance: Replace worn-out sanding pads. Ensure you are using the appropriate grit for your material and desired finish. Apply light, even pressure.
- Excessive vibration or noise: Check that the sanding pad is correctly attached and not damaged. Ensure all external screws are tightened. If the issue persists, discontinue use and contact customer support.
