Safety Information

• Use only a regulated 9V DC power supply with a center-negative plug. The pedal requires 9V DC and 30mA. Using an unregulated power supply or one with incorrect voltage/polarity may damage the unit and void the warranty.
• Do not expose the unit to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures.
• Do not attempt to open or service the unit. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
• Keep out of reach of children.

Setup

Power Connection

Connect a 9V DC (center-negative) power supply to the 9VDC input jack on the top right side of the pedal. Ensure the power supply meets the specified requirements to prevent damage.

Audio Connections

• Input: Connect your bass guitar or other instrument to the 1/4" INPUT jack on the right side of the pedal.
• Output: Connect the 1/4" OUTPUT jack on the left side to your amplifier, effects loop return, or audio interface.
• Direct Output (XLR): For connecting directly to a PA system, mixing console, or audio interface, use the balanced XLR DIRECT OUTPUT on the left side. This output provides a balanced version of the 1/4" output signal.
• Parallel Output: The 1/4" PARALLEL OUTPUT on the right side provides a buffered, unaffected signal from your instrument. This is useful for splitting your signal to another amplifier or tuner.
• Ground Lift: Use the GROUND LIFT switch next to the Direct Output to eliminate hum caused by ground loops when using the XLR output.

Operating the Pedal

The Alpha Omega pedal features a range of controls to sculpt your bass tone. Experiment with each knob and switch to find your desired sound.

Controls Overview

• Blend: This knob mixes the clean and processed signals. The clean signal remains at unity gain, while the volume of the overdriven signal is set by the Level knob, allowing for fine mix tuning.
• Level: Sets the overall output volume of the overdriven signal.
• Drive: Controls the amount of gain in the overdriven signal. Higher settings result in more distortion.
• Mod: This switch selects or mixes between the two distinct distortion circuits: Alpha is punchy, tight with a lot of definition, whereas Omega is simply brutal and raw.
• Growl: A shelving bass boost that provides a fatter tone and increased low-end saturation.
• Bite: Boosts high mids (around 2.8kHz) for additional presence and definition, helping your bass cut through the mix.
• Bass: Controls the level of the low frequencies in the EQ section.
• Mid: Controls the level of the midrange frequencies in the EQ section.
• Treble: Controls the level of the high frequencies in the EQ section.

Maintenance

The Darkglass Alpha Omega pedal is built to be robust and reliable. Minimal maintenance is required to ensure its longevity.

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the pedal's surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.
• Storage: Store the pedal in a dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Connections: Periodically check all cable connections for tightness and ensure they are free of corrosion.

Troubleshooting

No Sound / Low Output

• Ensure the power supply is correctly connected and providing the correct voltage (9V DC, center-negative).
• Check all audio cables for proper connection and integrity. Try swapping cables to rule out faulty ones.
• Verify that the Level and Blend knobs are not set to minimum.
• If using the Direct Output, ensure the Ground Lift switch is in the correct position (try both positions).

Unwanted Noise / Hum

• Ensure you are using a high-quality, regulated power supply. Unregulated power supplies can introduce noise.
• If using the XLR Direct Output, toggle the Ground Lift switch to eliminate ground loop hum.
• Check for faulty cables or interference from other electronic devices.

Distortion Issues

• Ensure the Drive knob is set to a desired level.
• Experiment with the Mod switch (Alpha/Omega) to see if the issue is related to a specific distortion circuit.
• Adjust the Blend knob to find the right mix of clean and distorted signal.
