1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Knightsbridge IP44 180° Mini PIR Sensor, Model OS0014. This passive infrared (PIR) sensor is designed to detect motion and automatically control connected lighting or other devices, offering convenience and energy efficiency. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and safety.
2. Safety Information
- Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with national wiring regulations.
- Ensure the main power supply is switched off before commencing any installation or maintenance work.
- This product is rated IP44, making it suitable for outdoor use where protection against splashing water is required.
- Do not exceed the maximum load ratings specified for this device.
- Keep the sensor lens clean and free from obstructions to ensure optimal performance.
3. Product Overview
The Knightsbridge OS0014 is a compact, white, wall-mountable or ceiling-mountable PIR sensor. It features a 180° detection angle and adjustable settings for time delay and light sensitivity (LUX).

4. Installation and Setup
4.1 Mounting Location
Choose a suitable location for mounting the sensor. It can be wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted. For optimal performance, consider the following:
- Avoid mounting near heat sources (e.g., air conditioning vents, heaters) that could cause false triggers.
- Ensure the detection area is clear of large obstructions.
- Mount at a height that allows for effective detection within the 4-meter range and 180° angle.
4.2 Wiring
Warning: Electrical installation should only be performed by a qualified electrician.
- Switch off the main power supply at the consumer unit.
- Carefully open the sensor housing to access the wiring terminals.
- Connect the live, neutral, and switched live wires according to the wiring diagram provided inside the sensor or on its packaging.
- Ensure all connections are secure and correctly insulated.
- Close the sensor housing securely, ensuring the IP44 rating is maintained.
5. Operating Instructions
After installation and power restoration, the sensor will enter a warm-up period (typically 30-60 seconds) during which it may cycle on and off. Once warmed up, you can adjust the settings using the dials located on the sensor (refer to Figure 4).
5.1 TIME Adjustment
The 'TIME' dial controls how long the connected light or device remains on after motion is detected and then ceases. The adjustable range is approximately 10 seconds to 15 minutes. Rotate the dial clockwise to increase the duration and counter-clockwise to decrease it.
5.2 LUX Adjustment
The 'LUX' dial determines the ambient light level at which the sensor will activate. This allows the sensor to operate only when it is dark enough. The adjustable range is approximately 3 LUX (dark) to 300 LUX (daylight). Rotate the dial towards the 'sun' symbol for activation in brighter conditions or towards the 'moon' symbol for activation only in darker conditions.
Automatic Operation: Once configured, the sensor will automatically detect motion within its 180° field of view and 4-meter range, activating the connected load according to the set TIME and LUX levels.
6. Maintenance
The Knightsbridge Mini PIR Sensor requires minimal maintenance. To ensure continued optimal performance:
- Periodically clean the sensor lens with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or debris that may obstruct detection. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Ensure the sensor is free from physical damage.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor does not activate. | No power; LUX setting too high; TIME setting too low; obstructed sensor. | Check power supply; adjust LUX dial towards 'moon'; adjust TIME dial; clear obstructions from sensor lens. |
| Light stays on continuously. | Constant motion in detection area; wiring error; sensor fault. | Ensure no continuous motion; verify wiring connections; if problem persists, consult a qualified electrician. |
| Sensor activates without apparent motion. | Heat sources; small animals; strong air currents; sensor fault. | Relocate sensor away from heat sources or drafts; adjust detection angle if possible; if problem persists, consult a qualified electrician. |
| Detection range is poor. | Incorrect mounting height; obstructions; extreme temperatures. | Verify mounting height; remove obstructions; ensure operating within specified temperature range. |
