1. Important Safety Instructions

Please read all instructions carefully before operating the Yamata FY335A sewing machine. Retain this manual for future reference.

  • Always disconnect the machine from the power supply before cleaning, lubricating, or performing any maintenance.
  • Keep fingers away from all moving parts, especially the needle, presser foot, and handwheel, during operation.
  • Use only the specified needle type (135x17, DPx17) and thread sizes (up to size 207).
  • Ensure the machine is placed on a stable, level surface.
  • Do not operate the machine if the power cord is damaged or frayed.
  • Keep children and pets away from the machine during operation.

2. Package Contents

Upon unpacking, verify that all components are present. The Yamata FY335A machine is shipped in sealed boxes and requires assembly.

3. Assembly and Setup

The Yamata FY335A requires assembly of the machine head, motor, and table. Follow these general steps for setup.

3.1 Table Assembly

Assemble the industrial sewing machine table according to the separate table assembly instructions provided. Ensure all bolts are tightened securely for stability.

3.2 Motor Installation

  1. Mount the Electronic DC Servo Motor (SMS-400) to the underside of the table using the provided hardware. Position it so the motor pulley aligns with the machine head's handwheel pulley.
  2. Attach the motor belt, ensuring it is taut but not overly tight. Adjust motor position if necessary to achieve proper belt tension.
  3. Connect the motor's power cord to a standard 110-volt outlet.

3.3 Machine Head Mounting

  1. Carefully place the Yamata FY335A machine head into the cutout on the assembled table.
  2. Secure the machine head to the table using the hinge pins and mounting screws provided. Ensure the machine is stable and does not wobble.
  3. Connect the motor belt to the machine's handwheel.

3.4 Initial Lubrication

The machine features a semi-automatic lubrication system. Before first use, fill the oil reservoir with industrial sewing machine oil (not included). Refer to the oil level indicator. Run the machine slowly for a few minutes to allow oil to circulate.

  • Cylinder Arm: The narrow 50mm diameter cylinder arm is ideal for sewing tubular items like shoes, bags, and cuffs.
  • Walking Foot Mechanism: The compound feed (unison feed) walking foot ensures even feeding of multiple layers of slippery or heavy materials, preventing slippage.
  • Rotary Hook: Features a large horizontal axis rotary hook, which reduces the frequency of bobbin changes, improving efficiency.
  • Servo Motor: The included Electronic DC Servo Motor provides precise speed control from 0 to 3300 RPM, allowing for slow, controlled stitching or high-speed production.

5. Operation

5.1 Powering On/Off

Connect the motor's power cord to a 110V outlet. Use the power switch on the servo motor control box to turn the machine on or off. The motor speed can be adjusted via the control panel.

5.2 Threading the Machine

Proper threading is crucial for consistent stitch quality.

5.2.1 Upper Threading

  1. Place the thread spool on the spool pin.
  2. Guide the thread through the tension discs and take-up lever as indicated by the machine's threading path.
  3. Thread the needle (type 135x17 or DPx17) from front to back.

5.2.2 Bobbin Winding and Insertion

  1. Wind the bobbin using the integrated bobbin winder.
  2. Insert the wound bobbin into the large horizontal axis rotary hook case. Ensure the thread feeds smoothly.
  3. Draw up the bobbin thread by turning the handwheel manually to lower and raise the needle.

5.3 Adjustments

  • Stitch Length: Adjust the stitch length up to a maximum of 6mm (4.2 SPI) using the stitch length dial.
  • Presser Foot Lift: The center foot can be raised or lowered using a simple wing nut adjustment to accommodate different material thicknesses. The maximum presser foot lift by hand is 8mm (5/16") and by foot is 13mm (1/2").
  • Thread Tension: Adjust upper and bobbin thread tension as needed to achieve balanced stitches.
  • Reverse Feed: Engage the reverse feed lever for back-tacking and reinforcing stitches.

5.4 Applications

The Yamata FY335A is suitable for a wide range of heavy-duty sewing applications, including:

  • Hemming shoes, purses, and belts.
  • Sewing bags, sofas, and other upholstery.
  • Shaping sport apparatus and other thick materials.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Lubrication

The machine features a semi-automatic lubrication system. Regularly check the oil level in the reservoir and refill with appropriate industrial sewing machine oil when necessary. Ensure oil is circulating properly to all moving parts.

6.2 Cleaning

  • Regularly clean lint and thread debris from the bobbin area, feed dogs, and under the needle plate using a brush or compressed air.
  • Wipe down the machine exterior with a soft, dry cloth.

6.3 Needle Replacement

Replace needles frequently, especially when sewing dense or tough materials, or if the needle becomes bent or dull. Always use needle type 135x17 or DPx17. Ensure the needle is inserted correctly with the flat side facing the back.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter. For complex problems, consult a qualified technician.

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Skipped Stitches Incorrect needle, bent needle, improper threading, incorrect tension. Replace needle, re-thread machine, adjust tension.
Thread Breakage High tension, poor quality thread, burrs on machine parts, incorrect needle size. Reduce tension, use quality thread, check for burrs, use correct needle.
Uneven Stitches Incorrect tension, worn feed dogs, material slippage. Adjust tension, ensure walking foot is functioning correctly, clean feed dogs.
Machine Not Starting No power, motor switch off, safety mechanism engaged. Check power connection, turn on motor switch, ensure machine is not jammed.
