Korky 440BP Dual Flush Seal Kit: Installation and Maintenance Guide

1. Product Overview

The Korky 440BP Dual Flush Seal Kit is designed to replace worn or damaged seals in specific dual flush toilets. This kit includes three distinct seal sizes to ensure compatibility with a range of toilet models. Manufactured from Korky's exclusive red rubber, these seals are engineered for durability and resistance to common water conditions such as chlorine, bacteria, city water treatment chemicals, hard water, and well water, promoting a longer lifespan for your toilet's flushing mechanism.

A properly functioning dual flush seal is crucial for preventing leaks and ensuring efficient water usage in dual flush toilet systems.

4. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps to replace the dual flush seal in your toilet:

  1. Turn Off Water Supply: Locate the water supply valve behind or near the base of the toilet and turn it clockwise until the water flow stops completely.
  2. Flush the Toilet: Flush the toilet to drain most of the water from the tank. Hold the flush handle down to ensure as much water as possible empties from the tank.
  3. Remove Tank Lid: Carefully lift the toilet tank lid and set it aside in a safe place to prevent damage.
  4. Identify and Remove Old Seal: The dual flush seal is typically located at the base of the flush valve assembly, often a large plastic component in the center of the tank. Gently detach the old seal. Note its orientation for reference.
  5. Clean the Area: Clean any residue or mineral buildup from the base of the flush valve and the surrounding area where the seal sits. A clean surface ensures a proper seal.
  6. Select and Install New Seal: Compare the three seals from the Korky 440BP kit with your old seal and the flush valve. Choose the seal that matches the size and shape of your original seal and fits snugly onto the flush valve. Install the new seal, ensuring it is seated correctly and evenly.
  7. Replace Tank Lid: Carefully place the toilet tank lid back onto the tank.
  8. Turn On Water Supply: Slowly turn the water supply valve counter-clockwise to restore water flow to the toilet tank. Allow the tank to fill.
  9. Test for Leaks: Once the tank is full, flush the toilet several times using both the full and partial flush options. Observe closely for any leaks around the base of the flush valve or from the tank into the bowl. If leaks persist, re-check the seal installation.

5. Operating Your Dual Flush Toilet

After installing the new seal, your dual flush toilet should operate as intended:

  • Partial Flush: Typically activated by pressing a smaller button or a partial press of a lever. This uses less water for liquid waste.
  • Full Flush: Activated by pressing a larger button or a full press of a lever. This uses more water for solid waste.

Ensure both flush options function correctly and that the tank refills without continuous running water.

6. Maintenance

To prolong the life of your Korky dual flush seal and maintain toilet efficiency:

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the seal for signs of wear, cracking, or hardening.
  • Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use in-tank drop-in chemical cleaners, as these can degrade rubber components and void warranties.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the area around the flush valve and seal free from mineral deposits and debris.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues after installing the new seal:

  • Toilet Runs Continuously (Ghost Flushing): This often indicates a faulty or improperly seated seal. Turn off the water, drain the tank, and re-inspect the seal. Ensure it is clean and perfectly aligned on the flush valve.
  • Weak Flush: While less common for a seal issue, ensure the water level in the tank is reaching the fill line. If the seal is not opening fully, it could also contribute to a weak flush.
  • Visible Leaks: If water is leaking from the tank into the bowl, the seal is likely not creating a watertight barrier. Re-check installation and ensure the correct size seal was used.
