This user manual provides detailed instructions for the Yottamaster 5 Bay External Hard Drive Enclosure (Model PS500U3). This aluminum USB3.0 enclosure is designed for 3.5" and 2.5" SATA HDDs/SSDs, supporting up to 90TB (5x18TB) of direct attached storage. It is a non-RAID version, ideal for personal and office storage needs.

Setup Guide

1. Installing Hard Drives

The Yottamaster 5 Bay Enclosure features 5 removable trays for easy installation of 2.5" or 3.5" SATA HDDs/SSDs. Gently push the front door to release a tray, insert your drive, and slide the tray back into the bay until it clicks into place.

2. Connecting the Enclosure

Connect the provided 12V 6.5A power supply to the enclosure's DC input port and plug it into a power outlet. Then, connect the enclosure to your computer using the supplied USB3.0 Type-B data cable.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

Press the power button located on the back of the enclosure to turn it on. The LED indicator on the front will illuminate. To power off, press the power button again.

2. Initializing and Formatting Hard Drives

For brand new hard drives, they must be initialized and formatted before they can be recognized and used by your computer. Please ensure to back up any existing data on drives being formatted.

For Windows Systems:

1. Right-click on "This PC" (or "My Computer") and select "Manage".
2. In the Computer Management window, navigate to "Disk Management" under "Storage".
3. Locate the newly connected hard drive (it will likely show as "Unallocated Space").
4. Right-click on the unallocated space and select "New Simple Volume".
5. Follow the New Simple Volume Wizard prompts. You can assign a drive letter and choose the file system (NTFS is common for Windows).
6. Complete the wizard to format and partition the drive.

For Mac OS Systems:

1. From the Finder, click "Go" in the menu bar, then select "Utilities".
2. Open "Disk Utility".
3. In Disk Utility, select your external hard drive from the sidebar.
4. Click the "Erase" button in the toolbar.
5. In the pop-up window, provide a name for the drive. For "Format", select "ExFAT" if you intend to use the drive with both Mac and Windows systems. If exclusively for Mac, you can choose APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journaled). For "Scheme", select "GUID Partition Map".
6. Click "Erase" to begin the formatting process.

Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the enclosure. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
• Ventilation: Ensure the cooling holes on the front and rear of the enclosure are not obstructed to allow for proper airflow and heat dissipation.
• Safe Ejection: Always safely eject the enclosure from your computer's operating system before disconnecting the USB cable or power supply to prevent data corruption.
• Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the enclosure in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

• Drive Not Detected:
  • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the enclosure is powered on.
  • Verify the USB data cable is properly connected to both the enclosure and your computer.
  • If it's a new drive, it may need to be initialized and formatted (refer to "Operating Instructions" section).
  • Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
  • Test the hard drive directly connected to your computer (if possible) or in another enclosure to rule out drive issues.
• Slow Transfer Speeds:
  • Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. USB 2.0 ports will result in significantly slower speeds.
  • Check the health of your hard drives. Degraded drives can impact performance.
  • Avoid running multiple demanding applications during large file transfers.
• Enclosure Overheating:
  • Ensure the enclosure is placed in a well-ventilated area.
  • Check that the cooling fan is operating correctly and not obstructed.
  • Excessive drive activity can generate heat; consider reducing simultaneous heavy operations.
• RAID Functionality:

  This model is a non-RAID version and does not support hardware RAID. If you wish to set up RAID, you can only set up software RAID using tools within your operating system (e.g., Disk Utility's RAID Assistant on Mac OS). Note that software RAID compatibility may vary and is typically intended for RAID version enclosures.
