3. Initial Setup

3.1 Power Connection

1. Place the machine on a stable, level surface.
2. Insert the foot pedal plug into the machine's foot pedal jack.
3. Insert the power cord plug into the machine's power inlet.
4. Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

3.2 Winding the Bobbin

1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
2. Guide the thread through the upper thread guide and around the bobbin winding tension disc.
3. Insert the thread through the hole in the bobbin from the inside out.
4. Place the bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle and push it to the right.
5. Start the machine by pressing the foot pedal. The bobbin will wind automatically. Stop when the bobbin is full.
6. Cut the thread and push the bobbin winder spindle to the left, then remove the bobbin.

3.3 Threading the Upper Thread

1. Raise the presser foot lever.
2. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
3. Guide the thread through the upper thread guide.
4. Follow the numbered threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and takes up lever.
5. Thread the needle from front to back. The built-in needle threader can assist with this step.

3.4 Inserting the Bobbin (Lower Thread)

1. Open the bobbin cover plate.
2. Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case with the thread unwinding counter-clockwise.
3. Guide the thread through the tension spring and into the thread guide slot.
4. Close the bobbin cover plate.
5. Turn the handwheel towards you to lower and raise the needle, catching the bobbin thread. Pull both threads to the back under the presser foot.

4. Operating the Machine

4.1 Stitch Selection

The Brother LX27NT offers 27 built-in stitches, including utility, decorative, and a 1-step buttonhole. To select a stitch:

1. Turn the stitch selection dial located on the front of the machine to the desired stitch number.
2. Refer to the stitch chart printed on the machine for visual guidance on each stitch pattern.

4.2 Basic Sewing

1. Place the fabric under the presser foot, aligning the edge with a seam guide on the needle plate.
2. Lower the presser foot lever.
3. Gently press the foot pedal to start sewing. The harder you press, the faster the machine will sew.
4. Guide the fabric gently; do not pull or push it forcefully.
5. To finish a seam, press the reverse stitch lever (if applicable) for a few stitches to secure the seam, then raise the needle and presser foot.
6. Pull the fabric away from the machine and cut the threads using the thread cutter.

5.1 Cleaning the Machine

• Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
• Remove the needle plate and bobbin case.
• Use the small brush provided (or a soft brush) to remove lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs.

5.2 Changing the Needle

• Unplug the machine.
• Loosen the needle clamp screw with the screwdriver.
• Remove the old needle.
• Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine, pushing it up as far as it will go.
• Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
