1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Yato YT-36171 Pneumatic Riveter. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the tool to ensure proper function and to prevent injury or damage.
The Yato YT-36171 is a professional-grade pneumatic riveting tool designed for installing pop rivets made of aluminum, copper, and steel. Its robust construction and ergonomic design ensure reliable performance in various applications.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves, when operating the riveter.
- Ensure the air supply is disconnected before performing any maintenance, changing nozzles, or when the tool is not in use.
- Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure of 7 bar (100 PSI).
- Keep hands and body parts clear of the working area and the rivet setting mechanism during operation.
- Use only clean, dry compressed air. Moisture in the air supply can damage the tool.
- Regularly inspect the tool for damage or wear. Do not use a damaged tool.
- Keep the work area clean and well-lit.
- Do not modify the tool in any way. Use only genuine Yato replacement parts.
- Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before riveting.

4. Setup Guide
4.1 Connecting to Air Supply
- Ensure your air compressor is capable of providing the required air pressure (5-7 bar) and air flow (54 l/min).
- Connect a suitable air hose (not included) to the riveter's 1/4" air inlet. The inlet features a 360° swivel for flexible use.
- It is recommended to use an in-line air filter/lubricator to ensure clean, lubricated air supply, which prolongs tool life.
- Set the air compressor pressure regulator to the recommended operating pressure (typically 6.2 bar).
4.2 Installing Rivet Nozzle
- Disconnect the air supply from the tool.
- Select the appropriate rivet nozzle that matches the diameter of the rivet you intend to use. The tool supports rivet diameters of 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm, 4.8mm, and 5.0mm.
- Unscrew the currently installed nozzle (if any) from the front of the tool.
- Screw the selected nozzle firmly into place. Do not overtighten.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Rivet Selection
The Yato YT-36171 is suitable for:
- Aluminum and Copper Pop Rivets: Diameters 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm, 4.8mm, 5.0mm.
- Steel Rivets: Maximum diameter 3.2mm is recommended.
Always ensure the rivet diameter matches the installed nozzle and the material thickness of your workpiece.
5.2 Riveting Procedure
- Connect the air supply to the riveter.
- Insert the rivet mandrel (the pin) into the selected nozzle until it seats firmly.
- Place the rivet body into the pre-drilled hole in your workpiece. Ensure the rivet head is flush against the material.
- Press the riveter firmly against the workpiece, ensuring the nozzle is perpendicular to the surface.
- Squeeze the trigger to activate the tool. The tool will pull the rivet mandrel, forming the rivet head on the blind side of the workpiece.
- Continue holding the trigger until the mandrel snaps off. The spent mandrel will be ejected from the rear of the tool into the collection container.
- Release the trigger and remove the tool from the newly set rivet.
- Periodically empty the spent mandrel collection container.

6. Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pneumatic riveter.
6.1 General Cleaning
- After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust or debris.
- Ensure the spent mandrel collection container is emptied regularly.
- Keep the air inlet free from obstructions.
6.2 Lubrication
If not using an in-line lubricator, add a few drops of pneumatic tool oil into the air inlet before each use or after every hour of continuous operation. This lubricates internal components and prevents corrosion.
6.3 Nozzle and Jaw Replacement
Over time, the jaws inside the tool that grip the rivet mandrel may wear out, leading to inconsistent riveting or mandrels not breaking cleanly. The nozzles can also wear or become damaged.
- Disconnect the air supply.
- Unscrew the front casing of the tool to access the jaw assembly.
- Carefully remove the old jaws and replace them with the new set (3 pieces). Ensure they are correctly oriented.
- Reassemble the front casing and screw on the desired rivet nozzle.
- Test the tool with a scrap rivet before resuming work.
